Mind Meld Log, stardate 220722 (22Jul22)

The Denkiri Centre for Creativity was established on Astraios Prime in the early months of 2422 as a means of outreach to the scientists, philosophers, artists, engineers, and designers who dwell in the Gamma Quadrant. Its philosophy was inspired by the Terran author Gene Roddenberry, who had, in the 20th and 21st Century, envisioned a universe in which sentient life forms would gather to share knowledge, conduct research, and improve the quality of life for all. The Centre hosts brainstorming sessions, organizes an open lecture series, manages artistic exhibits, conducts tours, and works to enhance the immersive environment through building, scripting and developing knowledge of the sector and quadrant.

ACTIVITY: 'Mind Meld' brainstorming session
HELD: Stardate 220722, 2200/10pm 3RG/SLT
LOCATION: Denkiri Cafe, UF Starfleet Astraios.

We discussed:
- how we 'discovered' Astraios/3RG
- Genomic analyses of microbes from Canada’s Arctic provide insight into life forms that could survive on Mars.
- James Webb has detected water on an alien planet, possible conditions for life exist there too.
- Should we be looking to space when we have so much to take care of here?
- Look at all the endangered species, dying out because their habitat is being destroyed
- Rachel encountered a curious orca when diving for molluscs
- discussed whale species, whale language, and the effects of shipping on whale communications & the damage to their social systems, etc
- quiet technologies would help
- our economic system is built around human costs. It doesn't recognize environmental costs
- a massive extinction event is looming in the world's oceans, we have 30 years to reverse atmospheric carbon or we lose our marine life
- what can an ordinary human do in the face of all this?
- no answer, except try to educate people and hope they start caring sooner rather than later
- I don't think any one person can do anything, no matter how rich or powerful. It has to be collective will

"Mild Meld is a meeting of minds, a playful tossing out of ideas, silly and serious... the wilder the better... no idea is criticized. We may find that that wild idea and this crazy thought meld together into something really cool, or we may just have collective coffee and rambunctious fellowship. It's all good." As Gene Roddenberry said: "To be different is not necessarily to be ugly; to have a different idea is not necessarily to be wrong. The worst possible thing is for all of us to begin to look and talk and act and think alike."

Next 'Mind Meld's' will be held:
Tue Aug 2nd @ 10:30am SLT/3RG.
Fri Aug 5th, 1000PM/2200hrs SLT/3RG.

All are welcome to attend.
