I walk to the mess hall and ask the replicator for a cup of ice water. I take out my pad and begin a new log...

Helm Cadet's Log, Stardate 200406.2143
While the Courageous was en route to an asteroid to investigate what happened to the crew on the Space Station, we received a message from the Maxwell. As it turns out, they were attacked by pirates and needed assistance. The Captain told me to plot a course for the Maxwell to provide assistance. I plotted a course around 1724 and was told to go to maximum warp as soon as we were clear from orbit. We were told to raise shields, for we didn't know what we were heading into. Ten minutes later we arrive at the Maxwell's coordinates. We were undetected, so I was told to keep a distance to keep it that way for the time being. Tactical detected 3 corsairs around the planet. As soon as they were detected, Security was instructed to go to Yellow Alert.
A few moments later, the Sheppard arrives and the Maxwell was requesting assistance. The pirates were attacking them, but it turns out they had people on the planet they were orbiting, and couldn't quite leave yet. Communications was told to keep an ear out for anything that the enemies were saying so we could identify them. At this point, they had noticed we were there, and we were told to go to Red Alert if fired upon. The Captain ordered Tactical to charge weapons and keep the shields up. They diverted their attention from the Maxwell and hailed us saying to leave or be destroyed. The Captain refused and told them to back down. They opened fire and Tactical was told to return fire. We hit one of their ships but they still refused to stand down. I was told to do a Maneuver Omega Riker and to keep us in range, but out of their fire. At this point, their shields were damaged but not down. We were told to keep firing and to take out their shields.
The enemy ship hailed us once again and said that we had our chance to flee and that we were going to be destroyed. The Captain and her bravery told them that they stood no chance and should move along, but they refused. We and the Sheppard continued to fire on the ships. Our shields were still standing at 100%. We eventually shot down on of their ships. I was told to move us behind the asteroid that was there among arrival and to be ready just in case. At this point, I could tell the Captain was getting anxious and I was as well. I took a deep breath and continued to follow orders. Tactical was told to stand ready and to lock on to the target. There was no damage to report and shields were holding at a steady 100%. They were being too quiet and the Captain took note and knew they were up to something. At this point, three new ships had arrived to help their allies. It turns out their weapons had no effect on our shields and we were told to keep firing. I was told to do a Tactical Maneuver Alpha Omega and keep us out of their sights.
We continued firing and I was told to move us within firing range but keep us far back enough if we needed to retreat. As soon as we were within range, Tactical opened fire. A few moments later, the Sheppard's shield was penetrated and they were taking some heavy damage. Eventually, one of the ships retreated at high warp and we continued firing. I could tell the stress was getting to me because a few minutes later I could feel my head starting to hurt. I ignored it and continued to dodge their fire. A few times after Tactical fired the weapons, we could feel the ship vibrate a little. I held my breath and continued maneuvring fire. Eventually, the Sheppard was taking more damage and I was told to scoop under the Sheppard and Tactical was told to fire among them as soon as we came out. Later on, I was told to move us out of the line of fire.
Eventually, we destroyed the last of their ships and went into orbit around the Maxwell and the Sheppard to keep watch for enemies. I leaned back in my seat and started rubbing my temples. My headache had gotten much worse. The Captain ordered the Doctor to check it out. I was found to have vessel constriction causing pain in the temporal region and given an analgesic to help. We continued to stay in orbit around the other ships keeping watch for any other enemies that might attack while they were vulnerable.

I stand up and finish the remaining water left in my glass, and head back to my quarters for the evening...
