Mind Meld Log, stardate 220819 (19ug22)

The Denkiri Centre for Creativity was established on Astraios Prime in the early months of 2422 as a means of outreach to the scientists, philosophers, artists, engineers, and designers who dwell in the Gamma Quadrant. Its philosophy was inspired by the Terran author Gene Roddenberry, who had, in the 20th and 21st Century, envisioned a universe in which sentient life forms would gather to share knowledge, conduct research, and improve the quality of life for all. The Centre hosts brainstorming sessions, organizes an open lecture series, manages artistic exhibits, conducts tours, and works to enhance the immersive environment through building, scripting and developing knowledge of the sector and quadrant.

ACTIVITY: 'Mind Meld' brainstorming session
HELD: Stardate 220819, 2200/10pm 3RG/SLT
LOCATION: Denkiri Cafe, UF Starfleet Astraios.

We discussed:
- weather
- what is expected this winter?
- will we ever be able to control the weather.
- we can't control the global weather, but what about muting it?
- 'a hotter climate means more evaporation and especially heat energy off the oceans mostly, but off land too. That energy feeds wild weather."
- there is no political will to do what is best, we rarely act before it's too late.
- what about other planets? You can't terraform Mars, it has no spinning magnetic core, so it will always be marginal atmosphere.
- Mars also has radiation issues, everyone will have to live in domes anyway.
- ships going to Mars need radiation shielding, doubt they are prepared for it.
- the plight of the bees should never be forgotten.
- Technology can't do it all. If your liver is damaged from alcohol, you can keep drinking in the belief that soon there will be a cure for cirrhosis. Or you can apply the cautionary principle and stop drinking. As a species, I don't think we're smart enough or prudent enough to make that choice.
- there has to be a fundamental flaw in how human beings think.
- if only humans had a 'peace' gene.

"Mild Meld is a meeting of minds, a playful tossing out of ideas, silly and serious... the wilder the better... no idea is criticized. We may find that that wild idea and this crazy thought meld together into something really cool, or we may just have collective coffee and rambunctious fellowship. It's all good." As Gene Roddenberry said: "To be different is not necessarily to be ugly; to have a different idea is not necessarily to be wrong. The worst possible thing is for all of us to begin to look and talk and act and think alike."

Next 'Mind Meld's' will be held:
Tue Aug 30th @ 10:30am SLT/3RG.
Fri Sep 2nd, 1000PM/2200hrs SLT/3RG.

All are welcome to attend.
