Mind Meld Log, stardate 220719 (19Jul22)

The Denkiri Centre for Creativity was established on Astraios Prime in the early months of 2422 as a means of outreach to the scientists, philosophers, artists, engineers, and designers who dwell in the Gamma Quadrant. Its philosophy was inspired by the Terran author Gene Roddenberry, who had, in the 20th and 21st Century, envisioned a universe in which sentient life forms would gather to share knowledge, conduct research, and improve the quality of life for all. The Centre hosts brainstorming sessions, organizes an open lecture series, manages artistic exhibits, conducts tours, and works to enhance the immersive environment through building, scripting and developing knowledge of the sector and quadrant.

ACTIVITY: 'Mind Meld' brainstorming session
HELD: Stardate 220719, 10:30am 3RG/SLT
LOCATION: Denkiri Cafe, UF Starfleet Astraios.
ATTENDANCE: 11

TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION:
"...individuals make the future, and they do it by imagining that things can be different." (Neil Gaiman)

We discussed:
- Artificial Intelligence and the Smart Shoe
- that kind of AI will help people monitor their health
- it might end starvation
- will AI make us all the same, or will it support more individuality
- will AI make dating easier
- smart appliances have security issues
- AI is used to track us and push us to buy things we don't need
- AI doesn't necessarily make us smarter humans (we're the ones creating it, too)
- a 'better' human might be... global citizens who care about the environment, who don't overconsume resources, who support creativity and individuality, and the freedom to live your life as you choose as long as it doesn't hurt others
- James Webb telescope and the possibility of finding 'life' elsewhere

"Mild Meld is a meeting of minds, a playful tossing out of ideas, silly and serious... the wilder the better... no idea is criticized. We may find that that wild idea and this crazy thought meld together into something really cool, or we may just have collective coffee and rambunctious fellowship. It's all good." As Gene Roddenberry said: "To be different is not necessarily to be ugly; to have a different idea is not necessarily to be wrong. The worst possible thing is for all of us to begin to look and talk and act and think alike."

Next 'Mind Meld's' will be held:
Fri July 22nd, 1000PM/2200hrs SLT/3RG.
Tue Aug 2nd @ 10:30am SLT/3RG.

All are welcome to attend.
