Mind Meld Log, stardate 220603 (3Jun22)

The Denkiri Centre for Creativity was established on Astraios Prime in the early months of 2422 as a means of outreach to the scientists, philosophers, artists, engineers, and designers who dwell in the Gamma Quadrant. Its philosophy was inspired by the Terran author Gene Roddenberry, who had, in the 20th and 21st Century, envisioned a universe in which sentient life forms would gather to share knowledge, conduct research, and improve the quality of life for all. The Centre hosts brainstorming sessions, organizes an open lecture series, manages artistic exhibits, conducts tours, and works to enhance the immersive environment through building, scripting and developing knowledge of the sector and quadrant.

"Ideas - Virtual Reality - Holograms"

-We do seem to close our minds often way too early, an idea needs some room to grow.
-We can provide a conduit to bringing people out in both participation and in level of intelligent thinking.
-Why not create media that invites people who are not yet familiar with virtual life, to give it a try?
-People get lost in stigmas and stereotypes and "gaming" gets a 'waste of time' tag.
-This isn't gaming, it's a virtual community.
-Virtual life means living an international global life.
-We are sitting with friends from all over the world, talking about community.
-No one owns an idea, they have them to share them, many people are inspired by other people's ideas.

-There's tons of social media, FB, etc. why do we choose to come to a virtual world with avatars?
-For me social media consists of friends or faceless followers reacting to what you post. Here you interact. This simulates a community of people better. You have an identity with an avatar, not just an opinion.
-I admit, I very much enjoy a virtual environment. I tried RPing Trek on a chat-based system... it just wasn't the same.
-Yes, it's limited in a chat-based system.. in a virtual world there's so much more.
-I find the opportunity to live inside a collective imagination exciting.
-The visual brings so much more into the interaction - you can learn a lot about a person by the avatar they choose, what they wear, and also you can actually do things that you can only state in a chat RP system.
-We all have wings here too. The genetic lottery is nullified.
-Unlimited creative environment with people from all over the world, to share your life with. It doesn't get any better than that.

-The meeting finished with a fine example of the latest holographic imaging technology.

"Mild Meld is a meeting of minds, a playful tossing out of ideas, silly and serious... the wilder the better... no idea is criticized. We may find that that wild idea and this crazy thought meld together into something really cool, or we may just have collective coffee and rambunctious fellowship. It's all good." As Gene Roddenberry said: "To be different is not necessarily to be ugly; to have a different idea is not necessarily to be wrong. The worst possible thing is for all of us to begin to look and talk and act and think alike."

Next 'Mind Meld's' will be held:
Tue June 7th, , 10:30am SLT/3RG
Tue June 21st, , 10:30am SLT/3RG
Fri June 17th, 1000PM/2200hrs SLT/3RG.

All are welcome to attend.
