Mind Meld Log, stardate 221122 (22Nov22)

The Denkiri Centre for Creativity was established on Astraios Prime in the early months of 2422 as a means of outreach to the scientists, philosophers, artists, engineers, and designers who dwell in the Gamma Quadrant. Its philosophy was inspired by the Terran author Gene Roddenberry, who had, in the 20th and 21st Century, envisioned a universe in which sentient life forms would gather to share knowledge, conduct research, and improve the quality of life for all. The Centre hosts brainstorming sessions, organizes an open lecture series, manages artistic exhibits, conducts tours, and works to enhance the immersive environment through building, scripting and developing knowledge of the sector and quadrant.

ACTIVITY: 'Mind Meld' brainstorming session
HELD: Stardate 221122, 1030hrs 3RG/SLT
LOCATION: Denkiri Cafe, UF Starfleet Astraios.

We discussed: patterns and perspectives
humans are hard wired to find patterns, we see them everywhere
- all science and art is based on pattern seeking
- we all could maybe cite at least once when a series of unplanned events have changed our lives
- the problem with patterns is that when we accept them as significant, they become traps
- I cannot dance easily without a pattern of pulse in the music
- when we look out to space, are we looking for patterns? are we limited by our pattern-perspective?
- Maybe everything is completely different than what we even can imagine.
- we know nothing about consciousness except that it arises mysteriously in complex information systems
- we only define life as organic because that is what we have, so we search the stars for organic traces
- should we strive to break some of the pattern-based thinking in our lives?
- definitely - not always easy - learn to embrace chaos
- to function in harmony with the rest of the world we're almost forced to stay in the "right" tracks.
- if everything is perfect as it is, why aren't we all contented?
- if we go out to space, will we be able to cope with the pattern-less chaos of other life forms who see things entirely differently
- A problem that always existed here on earth, trying to convince or even force our ways of thinking, be it religious or something else.
- Will we be cosmic missionaries and colonists?
- I hope just explorers
- that hasn't been the pattern
- that's why we need the Prime Directive
- we are curious - because comfort isn't enough. It doesn't feed our souls

"Mild Meld is a meeting of minds, a playful tossing out of ideas, silly and serious... the wilder the better... no idea is criticized. We may find that that wild idea and this crazy thought meld together into something really cool, or we may just have collective coffee and rambunctious fellowship. It's all good." As Gene Roddenberry said: "To be different is not necessarily to be ugly; to have a different idea is not necessarily to be wrong. The worst possible thing is for all of us to begin to look and talk and act and think alike."

Next 'Mind Meld's' will be held:
Fri Nov 25th, 900PM/2100hrs SLT/3RG.
Tue Dec 2nd @ 10:30am SLT/3RG.

All are welcome to attend.
