Having arrived in the Alpha Quadrant, and some much needed R & R, we are making ready for departure of Utopia Planitia Shipyards. We are aboard the USS Mjolnir, defiant class tactical escort, making our way home to the SS Peedy Thor. The Corp of Engineers have done quite the job with this one. The USS Mjolnir will certainly come in handy with all the new threats we have been facing in the Pinastri System.

Location of RP: SS Peedy Thor
Meeting Brief Location: Shuttlebay
Alert Status: None
Damage: None

STARTING OBJECTIVES ( * = indicates leading assignments)

Operations: Check over the ships systems and make sure we are ready to go. Helm prepare for departure.

Engineering: Check out the propulsion systems and bring full power online and prepare the temporary QSD for slip stream travel. Our cloaking device will not work as long as the temp QSD is installed.

Science: Begin scans of the system and prepare for slip stream travel.

Medical: Begin physicals of the crew during our journey home.

Security: Should be an easy week. Check weapons systems, stow away the weapons we picked up.

Marines: Join in any department that you have the specialization for.

Cadets: Assist where directed

Ships Assisting: None

Remember: Q does not serve on the ship. Be creative with your solutions to issues. Its not about 1 person, we are a crew and as a crew we need to overcome our obstacles, together.

1) Joining in late? Not sure what to do? Talk with others in your branch/division/department to be briefed. If they are unavailable, contact Rich Lombardia or Ravyn Stormchyld to get an update and request assignment.
2) Have a major twist you'd like to implement? IM the Mission Creator (who wrote the briefing)
3) SCS combat system is required.

Confused about the mission? In this section, you'll find background supplemental information about our mission, the area of space we're in, supporting ships, and so on that you can use to help build atmosphere and add detail when participating or to your logging, if you like!

As we stepped onto the new Defiant Class ship, we were amazed at the new design and construction of it. Being used to the utility feel of the other Defiant Class ships, this one seemed luxurious in comparison. We quickly began getting the ship ready for departure, bringing main power online and watching all the monitors come to life. Settling into the Captains Chair, I realized for the first time, how viable this will be to us on the station. We are no longer confined to just the distance of the shuttlecrafts or transporters. Even with all, we have been through so far, the daunting nature of our mission set in, it really seems our mission is just beginning.

After preparations to depart where complete, we hailed the Flight Controller that we were ready to launch. Disconnecting the umbilical and mooring clamp, switching to main power and pulling slowly away with reaction control thrusters. Coming around, we came to 1/4 impulse and pulled out past the first and second navigation markers. We set course for the Khittomer wormhole and accelerated slowly to warp 8. As these engines were new, we didn't want to stress them out so soon.

Reaching the wormhole, we recalibrated the temporary QSD, and main navigational deflector, and breached the wormhole. I had looked at the massive light show in the wormhole before but never straight on. Usually, it was from some side window port, this was absolutely amazing. But even as amazing as this was, all I could think of was seeing the station again and being home. Some time had passed in the wormhole when a comms message from Engineering came through, "Captain, the QSD manifold is developing microfractures, there is to much stress on it. Suggest we shut down the QSD for repairs." I acknowledged Engineerings concern and had Helm slowly drop us out of the wormhole. Coming to an abrupt departure from the wormhole, we found ourselves in unfamiliar space.

Beginning to scan the area for any trace of a familiar constellation, planet or anything that would tell us where we are. Intently trying to found our position, we are suddenly slammed by something. As we did not bring a Tactical Officer with us, not a mistake I will soon make again, I ran for the Tactical station. "Bringing up shields and Ablative Armor now." I said to the bridge crew followed with, "Helm, evasive pattern Delta 1-3, Operations Why the hell did we not detect them before they got here?" Lt Cmdr Buttons looking a bit befuddled, "Sir, they showed up on none of our sensors until they were right on top of us. There are three of them running what seems to be strafing runs at us."

Scanning the ships returned a strange composition of metals in the hull, an odd energy signature, and nothing in the database recognizing these ships. We flew down and under the first one, firing at what we thought was the ventral shield emitter, with little to no sign of damage. Coming about almost like a 180, and firing at its aft shield emitters, finally showed a bit of promise. I was totally thrown off by how much more maneuverable this new ship was. The first ship peeled off and the second began to swoop in. Turning and rolling we managed to miss the incoming fire and returned what we could. The third began to strafe almost sideways at us, have never seen a ship that can do that before. Lt Cmdr Carmona pulled the nose up and rolled us over backward, putting us in line with their aft shield emitter. Firing pulse cannons, torpedoes, and phaser arrays, we were able to damage those shields.

Just as quickly as they had appeared, they left the system. We did not have time to worry about determining the nature of those ships, rather we needed to get out of there before reinforcements might arrive. Turning back to the "where are we" issue, we finally determined we where six days from the SS Peedy Thor. "Engineering, how soon can we have that QSD back up?" I asked over comms. "Captain, we are not going anywhere with this QSD, much more than the manifold was damaged. We will need some serious time at the station to figure out how to fix this thing." came back from Engineering. I ordered Helm to bring us about to heading 126 marks 182 and give us Warp 9.8 for the first 6 hours and then drop to cruising speed. I wanted as much distance between us and those ships as possible. The ship came about and lurched forward as we entered Warp from almost a dead standstill. It would take us some time to get back to the station, but we should be fine as long as we don't run into those ships again.

"Helm Officers Log:
Its been awhile since I've had the opportunity to fly something bigger than a shuttle, there just haven't been many opportunities since I left the guard, so this was a good chance to stretch my space legs.

The mission was a simple ferry exercise between the Fleet yards and Pinastri. Undocking and departure were fairly uneventful though everyone seemed faintly rusty and could use some practice.

The QSD device functioned effectively, to begin with, establishing a solid slipstream which transported us 99.9% of the way back to Pinastri before suffering a critical system failure. We were able to exit the slipstream with minimal damage.

However, during the process of re-aligning our navigation, system a vessel of unknown origin attacked the Mjolnir. For unknown reasons the vessel decided to leave us for dead when we shut down all our systems, freeing us to continue on route."

"Duty Log 180421

Today we are bringing the USS Mjolnir home to the station, following her completion at Utopia Planitia Shipyards. Despite my siblings typicly overly literal and fussy observations, standard diagnostics were returning with only minor variations from spec, not uncommon on brand new vessels, and we proceeded on schedule for the Khitomer wormhole. There was a little bit of variance in the inertial dampeners and we started to adjust and tweek out subsystems that were still at the factory setting after the QED drive was engaged. The QSD Manifold cracked and started leaking coolant, and we had to drop out of slipstream to repair it. As we dropped out of the stream, we lost power and had to switch to our reserves. The EPS grid took a bit of a blow and we lost a number of relays. I started to scan the area in order to allow our navigational computer to catch up and figure out where we were. Fortunately, we had come the majority of our journey and landed quite close, relatively, to our destination. The QSD manifold was trashed and we wouldn’t be able to replicate another until we returned to the station, so we continued on our way with the warp drive.

All of a sudden we began to take fire. No ships were showing up on our scans, so we used the tactical data to extrapolate good guesses on their location and number. There were three bogies according to our math, and we sent out a hail in hopes of making contact and gathering more data. When they did reply, our universal translator was at a loss as to syntax. We returned fire with our phase cannons and managed to hit one of the bogies, and it exited the system.

At this point Commodore Stormchyld ordered us to cut power and simulate a drifting roll, playing possum and hoping these aggressors would be fooled into thinking we were done for. It seemed to work as the remaining bogies made a last strafing run and left the system. Yaria was absolutely brilliant on helm, evading fire and keeping us out of the majority of the mess.

We watched them on passive scans until they were gone then made all haste back to Pinastri, using the week warp travel time to collect samples for analysis once we got home.

As if our logistical issues, recuperating command staff and sabotage issues weren’t enough, now it looks like we have a brand new threat on our doorstep. I am at a loss as to what their goals were as they made no attempt to board us and didn’t try to utterly destroy us when they thought they had the chance. I think when I get home I’m going to run the comms data through dad’s old syntax parsing program he was working on and see if I can make any headway.
