The Captain stands before the stunned group, LtCol Rowley-Wood needs confirmation that she is not acting under control of the Collective. After some convincing, Sirena deactivates the security field, releasing her. They then update the Captain on what has been occurring on the ship in her absence. Lt Springshade has also recovered and makes an examination of the substance Ortera started to inject into the Captain. She determines it was mainly Sodium Hypochlorite. Sirena goes to order LtCmdr Elduran into custody.

Before they can organise though, the conspiracy makes its next move. An alert blares out, the bridge is sealed as an unknown contaminant has been detected, and control of the ship moves to main engineering. Almost immediately, the alert blares out again, this time, Main Engineering is the affected area. Before the LtCol can order command functions to be transferred, LtCmdr Elduran makes an announcement. She reassures the crew that the situation is under control and that those on duty should remain at their posts, all others should remain in their quarters. Elduran spins the lie that the Captain, Mitchell and Rowley-Wood had been part of a group of renegades and that the Captain had been killed trying to return to the Collective! She also says help is on the way to them “from allies”

With their own security protocols being used against them, attempts to regain control of the ship by rerouting command functions fail. Springshade looks through the files of the known conspirators and finds a common thread that they all display some telepathic ability. As they contemplate their next move, Elduran contacts them. She makes reference that “they are now subjects of the Empire '' and that any attempt to breach Engineering will result in the deaths of all aboard the ship. They try to reason with her, and for a moment, it seems, like Vandrell, she is trying to fight some unknown influence, but it is to no avail and she cuts off the contact.

The group realise that the only option they have now is to get outside help. The only way to do that is to get someone out in a shuttlecraft without Elduran and her group knowing, and before her mysterious “allies” arrive….
