Duty Log - Ensign Heath Amat - Stardate 230528

The USS Connecticut was dispatched to the Serenity Prime, home world of the Hamorian Union to assist them in emergency relief efforts resulting from a plan et wide attack from the Melain Protectorate. The Melain Protectorate attacked on what appear to be flimsy grounds and carried out an orbital bombardment of the planet surface, focused on cities, towns and other concentrations of citizens. They also attacked transportation, communication and power generation facilities, leaving only the planetary water distribution system intact. In conjunction with the attack, a virus began to infect the remaining citizens, and was fatal to those infected within 72 hours. The planetary leadership is fragmented, and Melain ships are stopping relief efforts from reaching the planet.

The Harmonian's established a temporary base where their disaster recovery efforts would be focused, and its there that the crew of the Connecticut joined the citizens to assist them in attempting to save as many citizens as possible.,

With the Admiral's permission, I had a crewman take the runabout to orbit and began a mapping survey, collecting information on remaining infrastructure, locations of citizens, etc with the specific goal of locating 8,000 Federation citizens that were on the planet. Once the runabout was in orbit, the sensor data was injected into the outposts computer and used to generate detailed maps to be used by Federation and Harmonian teams for planning.

The next order of business was to check the outpost's power generation capability. Although the outpost was equipped with a standard 20 MW Class I fusion reactor, the reactant supply was limited and the model was inefficient. Running the industrial replicators and transporter systems we were planning to install would exceed the capacity by an order of magnitude. The Harmonians were assembling temporary housing as quicly as they were able and these two would need energy to sustain.

With the assistance of engineer Fhang, we were able to deploy two fission generators, and swap them in place of the fusion reactor. Although the fission generators are much less efficient and are archaic by Federation standards, they can easily be fueled from local materials. Once the generators were tested, they were phased in, increasing the generating capacity to 30 MW, and with the ability to add more generators, including larger "space rated" units based on the same technology and using the same fuel.

The Melain representative finally gave permission for freighters of relief supplies to be landed, and our priority was to get the industrial replicators and transporter systems setup for use and wired to the outpost's power distribution grid. As soon as the first two replicators were online, we focused on one the production of medical supplies and the other on food and portable water supplies (1000 liter cubes)

Engineer Fhang devised a way of using the remnants of the Harmonian communication system to provide transporter coverage in multiple areas, and as quickly as we could product food and water we began to distribute it. After evaluating the collected data,. the transporter output began to focus on water, knowing that humans and Hamorians could go for some time without food but not without water.

An assessment of the situation indicates that we simply can't produce and distribute water fast enough for the millions of people requiring it. It will take weeks to purge the planetary water system and the freighters can't be converted to carry fluids quickly. There may be some relief achieved by drilling into existing springs but this too will only solve part of the problem.

At the close of the duty shift, three more replicators had been set up and engineer Fhang had connected two more generators. At the moment we are staying ahead of the energy demand.
