Class Synopsis/Outline:

This class will delve into the critical role of xenolinguistics in the Starfleet universe. It will emphasize that mastering alien languages goes beyond mere vocabulary and grammar, in so much that it requires a multidisciplinary approach involving anthropology, sociology, psychology, cognitive science, and astrophysics. The class will cover the various methods Starfleet officers employ, from immersive fieldwork to advanced computational tools. It will conclude by underscoring the transformative impact of xenolinguistics, to facilitate an inclusive, cooperative, and scientifically advanced interstellar community.

The online and metaverse versions will deliver exactly the same lecture, but the metaverse version will also be interspersed with pertinent interactive discussion points. For example, the class predominately assumes spoken language as the primary method of communication, but what about sign languages like British Sign Language? (BSL is a language developed particularly for those who are deaf or hard of hearing like myself).
