Mission Day 9:

Me, Deanna, Daddy and Jess beamed down to the surface again. Calypso is in sickbay laying on a biobed with a light illness. We explored the city in teams. In the north we found a shop with unknown devices like a small stick either plastic or concrete. My tricorder registered those as “dildo’s” and this shop seems to be a “porn” shop. At one side I saw books with pictures of naked persons in it. No clue what this shop is about but I would surmise it’s a shop for entertainment and culture for the locals. Nearby is an abandoned building with lots of debris and barrels with toxic goo. Another building appears to be a fish processing factory near a park with dead trees. We visited that Bar again where Kermie found the Sludge. Later down south we encountered that Cybernetic person again and Jess had to beam back to the ship. We went to that Voodoo shop and I asked Daddy about this strange white circle with the letters in it. As he quote: I'd say we are looking at a sacrificial circle complete with the altar to bind the sacrifice. Nasty business. That fact that the circle is kept powered on means that it is used often and is very powerful.” So this would be a gateway to another dimension and you need to sacrifice someone to keep it open. Seeing the cauldron with the same chemicals as the Sludge and also the same cauldron being used with this circle we surmise that a small part of the Sludge is Extra dimensional. We need to do testing. We are getting close to our main objective.

Mission Day 9

Dr. Deanna Broek – Medical

Computer…start log

Calypso and I were speaking in sickbay near the lab when I heard her make an unusual sound and almost fell over. I managed to get her to a biobed and her nose started bleeding. She was still able to speak and managed to tell me that she touched the samples I had out for testing and may have ingested some by accident. The nosebleed started out very slight so I treated it as a first aide situation, but then it just wouldn’t stop. Scans indicated that her DNA sequence was fluctuating. I fear she’s been affected by the Sludge and am not sure what type of mutation she will experience, especially since I’ve never witnessed it in another Betazoid. Only time will tell. I was able to finally stop the bleeding for now and she’s resting in sickbay with an open comm so I can beam back immediately if needed.
After beaming down to the planet’s surface, we moved off in teams, with Jess and Daddy heading out on their own to gather information from the locals. Gijs and I decided on a medical and science mission to locate samples for more testing. I was able to get some samples from the inside of the barrels and located a sign attesting to the nasty contents. I suspect the dock is a place where some of the ingredients are brought into Toxian City. I got another sample of the Toxian Beer and then we met back up with Daddy and headed to the Voodoo shop after Jessica beamed back to the ship. She promised to update me on how Calpyso was doing.
After analyzing the powered on circle inside the Voodoo Shop, I was able to direct a medical probe from the ship to take samples from the table within the circle without having to enter whatever type of energy field it is emitting or being affected by it. The probe successfully took samples. After that, we decided to get out of the shop before being discovered. I am starting to realize the limitations of my analysis abilities on board and we are going to have to get these samples to Starfleet for further analysis. The Sludge samples I brought on the mission were enough to identify the basic properties, but there are so many samples now that we need more sophisticated lab testing to process all this data. I will do what I can for now and secure the samples in any way possible, even if it means banning the crew from sickbay while I’m working. I don’t want to risk anyone else being affected.

Mission Day 11:

We beamed down again for look for this Dickie Dickens guy, the possible inventor of Sludge. The team split up in search for him. After questioning a few locals nothing usefull came out. We headed to the bar again and found a primitive game called Pacman. Deanna and i tried this game but its kinda clunky to play.

Mission Day 11

Dr. Deanna Broek – Medical

Computer…start log

I’ve been working night and day trying to identify more of the compounds from all the samples, but I’ve exhausted the ship’s scientific potential and have reached a standstill. So, today, the team beamed down to gather information from the locals and try to locate this Dickie character, who seems to be the source of all things Sludge.
While Buck worked on his covert operation with one of the factions, Daddy worked on meeting some of the locals and Gijs and I went our own way trying to find out where we could find this person. We stopped in the local tavern again and took in a bit of the culture and then back out to the street. Gijs made contact with a shady character sitting on an old 20th century looking vehicle and found out that the man we seek is often found in the library, so at least we have a lead.
I have to wonder if this Dickie has heard we are looking for him and has gone into hiding…perhaps he doesn’t want to talk about the Sludge, for good reasons.

Mission Day 16:

Me, Deanna, Calypso and Daddy beamed down to the city again. We saw lots of people in the same bar where Kermie had First Contact with the Sludge. We blended in the scene and the local crowd was dancing on the floor. After some tactical interrogation we learned that Duckie Dickins left the city a long time ago. While doing the interrogations Daddy had an issue with one of the locals and started a fight. We was set on fire and felt on the ground. We all beamed back to the ship and Deanna treated him for 3th degree burns on all over his body. With the data from the questioning we lost a key part of the mission. With all the data and samples at hand, we cant do much further so the mission's primairy objective is completed. Furthermore the USS Magellan cant fully analyse the samples so we handle the Science part at a later time or unless another Station or Ship is interested in the samples. We stay untill this thursday for the secondary objectives and then we head home.

Mission Day 16

Dr. Deanna Broek – Medical

Computer…start log

*looks over at Daddy with a worried look on my face*

We made another attempt and what seems to be our final attempt to locate this Dickie Dickens person. While there, Daddy got into a fight with a very powerful local and was burned terribly. I remember a flash of fire and then everything went red. When I was able to focus, I saw Daddy on the ground unconscious and unable to move. He was given an emergency beam up to the Magellan while I prepped sickbay for surgery.

Daddy showed third degree burns over a great deal of his body as well as lung damage. After sedating him thoroughly and getting pain, lung repair and burn medication infused into him, I began the daunting task of removing the most severely damaged skin. I was very grateful for the availability of a modern sickbay on this day. Utilizing a T-Cell stimulator, I wanted to give his immune system a fighting chance at recovery. He remains heavily sedated and will be at least until tomorrow as his bandaged tissues hopefully respond to the dermal regenerator. Calypso was so upset and worried, but I had to keep the area sterile and asked her to join Gijs in the ship’s lounge.

I will be glad to head home and leave this dark and violent civilization…

*checks the infusion unit to make sure Daddy is able to sleep through the worst of it*

Mission Day 17

Dr. Deanna Broek – Medical

Computer…start log

After a long night watching over Daddy, I was able to inform a very worried and now relieved crew that he was going to be OK. Thanks to being able to operate right away and have all the tools necessary to heal him, Daddy is going to recover. He may have minor scarring that the dermal regenerator cannot manage, but the latest scans show normal lung function and good response to medications. After 3CCs of Netinaline, I was able to revive him enough to get him talking a bit.

Buck was in sickbay and was able to relay messages to the crew that Daddy’s condition was improving. I think we are all ready to head home. I will keep Daddy with me in sickbay until tomorrow and see how he’s doing then.
