The crew and I met at the USS Cutlass holodeck. Everyone was in the right state of mind for a new adventure together. We arrived at the Grand Canyon entry point. Beautiful views everywhere we looked-it truly felt like an R & R mission.

Image

We decided to start with the zipline to the base of the canyon. The drop to the canyon floor was breath-taking as it was over 1,800 meters. We landed near an area that had a life-like crocodile, mermaids and hippos. The holodeck programming was running at it's finest resolution with lifeforms settting on "scenic, indigenous, and dangerous" set to "variable." It seemed it a bit odd to have mermaids in the Grand Canyon….seeing as this was simply a hologram experience we continued along with the programmed settings as they were.

Image

We made a quick plan to explore this area starting with the nearby waterfall. It was set higher up in the canyon and we climbed up to discover a hidden cave behind the falls were we rested.

Image

Moving on we came to an rocky cliff edge clearly marked "no yodeling." We all chuckled at the sign and then it happened….someone yodeled. Huge rocks fell all around us as we ran for cover. Unfortunately the rocks felt very real as they hit us…crushing some and sending some into the river next to the cliff. Ruth and I were hit hard. Daddy was knocked into the river. Buck and Gijsjan went into action rescuing Daddy first, then Ruth and I. We ended the Grand Canyon session and quickly returned to sickbay on the Cutlass. Buck, remembering his medical training as a cadet, ran diagnostics and quickly has us treated with Gijsjan's assistance.

Image

I asked Gijsjan to have the holodeck checked over thoroughly by engineering for our next session scheduled tomorrow.

Gijsjan reported that the holodeck's functions passed engineering. We ran the Grand Canyon session-with everyone swearing they wouldn't yodel--ever-ever again. Like 'day one,' we zip-ined to the bottom of the canyon to start out. Landed by the river where there were pontoon boats handy. We rode around and found a weather anomaly….falling snow. It was as if someone changed the weather setting on the holodeck to winter. Buck started acting strange-doing the chicken walk-out of the blue. Not sure what brought that on….could have been temperature induced, but the holodeck's snow wasn't cold.

The snow went all the way up the canyon walls and over. We hiked up to the top and found a small resort sport shop. Gijsjan used a sled and slid down the the canyon floor again and disappeared. The rest of us used the snowboards. They were awesome–I've never been able to ride a snowboard like this outside the holodeck. Flipping and always landing upright–literally flying through the air.

All of us met at the bottom of the canyon and went inside a nearby lodge that had a roaring fireplace. We sat around the fire joking and chatting. Daddy came up with a game he called "Solve this Scenario." It was a clever game where one person describes an Intel scenario and the others each describe what they will do. I like games that make you think. I think we'll be playing this game often on this mission.

Side note: still uneasy about the holodeck's performance and settings. Glad we're having fun nonetheless.

Today we headed over to the skydiving pod. We were all in the mood for a rush of speed. Drop point altitude was 3000m. Not as far as the zip-line…but more dangerous, more fun.

Image

Note the cannon in the background of the photo above…we're saving that for Lt. Larsson when he joins us. We all want a turn blasting him out of the cannon. *giggles*

Image

Image

We dived 4 times and were worn out. No holodeck strangeness today….I'm feeling better about that. Maybe we needed to break her in. *smiles*

Image

Finished up the session at the pool playing "Solve that Scenario." Some of us, mainly me, got a little silly with our answers this time. No one says you have to be serious all the time….do they?

R&R from Hell:

Mission day 1: Stardate 110809

Today i’ve met a team at the holodeck of the USS Cutlass for some R&R and team building. Cali setup a scene based on “The Grand Canyon” of Earth. A huge rock formation with many rock hills. I put the program online and we explored the place. We came along some rock formations and we sat at a wooden table with seats. Near the table we found a waterfall with a hidden cave in there with a wooden sofa for making out. After walking to another side I noticed the safety protocols started to flux and rocks felt down from the cliff. A few persons got injured and I hastily ended the program. We all went to sickbay as Buck treated them.

Mission day 2: Stardate 110810

Another day in our R&R in the holodeck. Back to the Grand Canyon again with the team fo some fun and relaxing. At a top of the mountains we saw a huge cannon in which you can shoot yourself far away, strange indeed. We found a few 20th century earth hovercrafts and we sailed on the rivers of the canyon. At a place we saw snow and a big wooden shack. Seems it’s a snow skate course from ancient Earth. We all went up to the mountain and skate our way down and after that we sat at a fireplace in the shack for relaxing.

R&R from Hell:

Mission day 3: Stardate 110811

Fun time again at Grand Canyon. This time we went to a device which pushes us up to 4000 meters and make us fall down. Clearly we needed parachutes so we all strapped one on. We felt about 3 times down and we screamed like hell. Later we all relaxed at a shallow pool.

Lt. Jg. Buck Ghostraven
Ensign Daddy Meriman
Lt. Ponce Alexander Zapatero

Back in the Grand Canyon holodeck program again. Today we had Lt. Alex Zapatero, an engineering officer from the USS Shepard, join us to make some observations of the holodeck's performance.

Image

We began at the top of the canyon and ran the horse programming and rode one of the trails down into the canyon. No problems with the holodeck's functions along the way.

Image

Image

We dismounted the horses and investigated the riverbed underwater where large fiery boulders were falling. A few interesting water-life entities with tentacles were found in the same area. We had quite a few close calls with the boulders rolling down into the riverbed. Amazing that no one was injured in this session.

Image

Image

Lt. Zapatero felt that a science officer would be needed to study the boulder's properties. The boulders were unusually light in weight, flammable, and their exact origins were untraceable. He determined that the holodeck's maintainence system in the main feed clears up unnecessary objects from the current program. That explained why the boulders would suddenly disappear.

Mission day 4: Stardate 110816

Today along with an Engineer from the USS Sheppard we went to the Grand Canyons again. We simulated a bunch of horses (I had Betsy) and we rode the mountains visiting lots of sites. Those crocodiles were really scary but this is the holodeck and also our underwater party was really fun with the rocks bouncing all around us.

We reconvened our mission today on the holodeck. Back in the Grand Canyon setting for some team building exercises. We began with a group target shooting exercise taking turns shooting down targets in a game after much group discussion of how it should be played. While most of us were focused on the game, Lt. jg. Buck Ghostraven seemed to have disappeared into thin air. We scanned the area with no readings of his bio-signature.

He, then, appeared suddenly in the same location from where he was missing. He was disoriented and weak. I noticed a small red mark behind his right ear. He spoke of a blurry entity that told him "you're the first." Lt. Helix examined Buck as well. She recalled something like this happening on the USS Aviator…with what was referred to as the "phantom." Buck mentioned that the entity looked like a green Jack Frost and he also heard the letters "DNA" while he was being inspected.

Image

Lt. Alex Zapatero, an engineer from our USS Sheppard, was on a temporary leave using the holodeck. He took readings of the area and sent the results to Ruth. Nothing consequential to report.

I inspected the perimeter and found three odd leaf-like fragments behind a rock grouping and gave them to Ruth to run lab tests on them.

The entity appeared near us while we were attending Buck. Ensign Daddy Meriman was abducted and returned within 10 minutes. He was in rough shape and also had a red mark behind his right hear. Daddy established a Betazoid telepathic link to me before we teleported to sickbay aboard the Cutlass. In that link he showed me…. ::images of a people sick, dying, desperate for a cure. They have traveled the cosmos in search of aid; of something to give them hope. One of them finally finds a few sentients with compatible DNA and in desperate hope kidnaps them one by one to take DNA samples in it's rush to find something, anything that can bring help to his people::

Image

We are determined to find out where this entity is originated. Strange that it would appear in an holodeck session. Hopefully our lab results from the leaf-fragments will tell us more-further investigation of this event is in order.

So much for R & R…we're on a new mission now.

MISSION DAY 6:

Stardate: 110901

Lt. Calypso Titanium

Ensign Daddy Meriman
Lt. Deanna Sukra

As a result of the attack by the unknown entity, we rushed to sickbay and had medical officer Lt. Deanna Sukra treat Lt. Ghostraven and Ensign Meriman. Both men where having symptoms of dizziness and disorientation.

Image

The injured officers spoke about the abduction while being treated. Lt. Ghostraven reported that he was taken to a large room with crates and walls made of rock. He told us that the entity resembled a sort of green leafy "Jack Frost."

Ensign Meriman said he saw pods, a chamber with iridescent energy and various boxes. While detained, he said he made a mental connection with the entity. He said he didn't see or "feel" any other sentients around and that the entity was desperate and possibly in a panic; but he felt no malice from his mind. He also reported that he felt that the entity's people were terribly sick--dying or possibly all dead.

Suddenly, Lt. Ghostraven began convulsing. We backed away and quickly readied the containment chamber to transfer him safely. He turned all colors choking on the larva.

Image

I could see it bulging from his mouth and we couldn't remove it…the larva was sucking the life out of him. Lt. Sukra shouted "we have to get it out of him" I resorted to using my phaser to release the larva from Ghostraven. Killed it. It dripped to the floor and I collected it for Lt. Ruth Mistmumble for further examination.

Image

Our R&R mission has taken an even worse turn with this larva event. We need to find out why this entity has come here, stop him from abducting and implanting more beings.

MISSION DAY 7:

Stardate: 110902

Crew attending:
Lt. Calypso Titanium
Lt. Jg. Buck Ghostraven
Ensign Daddy Meriman

With Lt. jg. Buck Ghostraven and Ensign Daddy Meriman recovered, we returned to the holodeck and ran the Grand Canyon program to look for anything left behind by the entity. We started by the Shooting Gallery area where Ens. Merriman was abducted. Buck read off his tricorder readings with no traces left

Image

The entity returned, threatening, wanting more DNA. I picked up some of it's message via telepathy.."I must have the source…" He looked at me directly and 'said,' "you are the source. Please, my people are dying." Ens. Merman, being partially Betazoid as well, exclaimed that he was getting images rom the entity. They were images of beings much like the entity, dying and dead. Ens. Merman projected back images to the entity how we could help--sick bays and medical laboratories.

Image

The entity was determined to get what he desperately wanted. He started to approach me. Lt. jg Ghostraven and Ens. Merman armed their phasers.

Image

Suddenly we found ourselves in his lab at a unknown location.

Image

Image

Image

We tried to reason with him, but it was no use. We fired in unison at the entity--nothing could get through to it and it sent a paralyzing effect back to the Ens. Merman and Lt. jg Ghostraven. He looked at me and sent the message, "you are the source." I found myself suddenly on the lab table.

Image

Ens. Merman tried telepathically to reason with the entity, to stop him. The entity quickly extracted DNA from me and materialized an energy field around itself then disappeared.

Image

We beamed back to the USS Cutlass sickbay for medical clearance. I was concerned that the entity had left behind what he had given to Lt. jg Ghostraven…larva!! Thankfully, I was given a clean bill of heath by Lt. Deanna Sukra.

Having the coordinates to the entity's lab, we will return and investigate thoroughly.

MISSION DAY 8:

Stardate: 110918

Crew attending:
Lt. Calypso Titanium
Lt. Jg. Buck Ghostraven
Ensign Daddy Meriman
Cmdr. Gijsjan Broek
Lt. Deanna Sukra

After quickly recovering from our last encounter with the entity-the Dryad, we returned to it's lab to find some answers. We knew they wanted a recombinant DNA to enhance theirs. DNA to save their people and planet.

We arrived at the lab armed and set our phasers on stun. The Dryad entity was not there. Lt. Mistmuble picked up an energy source readings with embedded DNA sequences. They looked like pods. Commander Broek scanned the source as well, and found that the energy was"ethereal" class. 80% energy, 20% bio energy with a complex DNA mass.

While we were examining the pods, Ensign Meriman came in contact and was implanted with something alien-possibly larva. Lt. Sukra administered a hypospray and Pulmozine to Lt. Meriman to help with his breathing. His lifesigns soon returned to normal. The implant from the pod died from the drugs administered.

Image

Image

Another power source was discovered below the main level of the lab. Cmdr. Broek picked up a gravitation reading in it. Power generation was approximately three times of a Sovereign warp core. Possibly warp 12!! His summation was that this lab was actually a colony ship. A sort of "sleeper ship" with larva in stasis for future generations. Somehow its DNA was compromised and the larva couldn't survive.

Image

Dr. Deanna Sukra did some research and came up with a blend of synthetic/human DNA that we could offer to them. She used my DNA to create the blend. We didn't want them to continue to be forcefully taking our DNA, therefore, creating this DNA blend seems to be the best solution.

Image

Cmdr. Broek contacted Engineering aboard the USS Cutalss to lock a tractor beam on the asteroid that contained the Dryad lab. The Cutlass towed the asteroid back to Cascadia for further analysis.

Image

Image
We concluded our R&R mission surprisingly with first contact of a new species, no casualties and a just a sliver of R&R.
