220904 - INT22-02 A Crippling Blow - UFS INTEL Covert Mission

Responsible for gathering intelligence, they have the patience to read through a database for hours on end, and the cunning to coax information from an unwilling giver.

Stardate 220904

Internal Alert Status: Yellow
External Alert Status: Green

Security Level: Alpha-Two and higher (Only XOs and up are currently notified)
Starfleet Data Access: Level Four (Limited to INTEL, CO/XO of ships/stations and JCs)

Position: Pinastri

Our investigation continues… after discovering that the coding that was designed to take down and interfere with various UFS systems was Kazon in scope and design the decision was made to check out various UFS assets close to Pinastri. The mission is two fold, first to ensure that the computer systems are clean and second to look for suspects so the full scope of the cyber attack can be understood. With current Kazon/Federation relations starting to crumble with various sects, a fuller understanding needs to be sought to better alert all UFS assets from HQ to stations, to colonies and of course ships of the line, which might encounter Kazon attacks. The investigation must be kept covert as we do not want to alert whoever has disrupted our systems that we are looking for them.

Full assignments will be given upon presenting yourself IN PROPER UNIFORM at the INTEL office on Pinastri on 220910.1100. ((Please be advised, this mission takes place on SATURDAY at 11am SLT on September 10th.))

Mission Log:

All other agents were otherwise occupied, as such, I continued the investigations on my own. Visiting Charon’s Beacon uncovered a great deal of fascinating intelligence. Apparently several Kazons did pass through the area within the last couple of weeks. Supplimentary investigation of some of the station’s computer systems did turn up rogue code similar to what was found in the Federation computer systems. Due to the mercantile nature of the station, while arrival and departure information was removed from the systems via the code it was apparent that record systems for sales recorded known names to the Federation; namely Maj Valka of the Kazon-Makraza. The Makraza are a small concern in terms of Kazon factions, but if they are working with others this could be a definite difficulty.

It seems knowing that the Makraza are small militarily they diversified their skill sets away from brute combat and into computer system specialties. Their most recent activities, of the last four years, when tracked and correlated intersect on crimes where several top computer specialists ‘disappeared’ from various civilian and military installations throughout Federation space. It seems likely that the Makraza used these individuals to learn advanced computer infiltration and software writing techniques, making them invaluable to another of the the Kazon factions. Still, the knowledge of hardware did not seem to root back with the Makraza.

Again, tracking sales tickets, the names seemed to correlate with known members of the Kazon-Ulgath. This is the same Kazon-Ulgath that USS Veracruz had difficulties with most recently. Also a small sect, they seem to have likewise turned their gaze to advanced computer systems, operating similarly to the Kazon-Makraza. At this point it seems likely that the two sects are working cooperatively, something that is not unheard of, but generally has been unlikely in the past. Still, with the amount of currency being spent, it seems they must have had another backer. To these ends the investigation has been continued. From observations and other information acquired, it seems most likely that a large sect is working with the Kazon-Ulgath and the Kazon-Makraza, this has led most of the incidental information to the Kazon-Hobii.

This was an interesting revelation as it seemed that the Kazon-Hobii were at odds with the Ulgath sect, however there is a great deal of possibility that this was a clever ruse on the part of the sects.
The investigation continues.
