First encountered by USS Voyager, the Kradin had the reputation being spread by the Vori, whom they were at war with and supported by the frightening visage of the Kradin Species. They were classified as rapists, murderers, bloodthirsty, etc. Despite this, Voyager found them comparatively peaceful, at least this ONE example of the Kradin.(Memory Alpha, 2008)



On Stardate 120221, USS Shogun, then flung over 80,000 LY from Pinastri along with other UFS Assets and starting home while dropping communicator buoys, encountered another group of Kradin that greatly resembled the Vori description. In fact, the Vori had reportedly been destroyed entirely by the Kradin. Taking the reports by USS Voyager as sacrosanct, the USS Shogun welcomed the Kradin who then attacked the ship, taking several crew members to serve as ‘egg laying husks’ while mining the Shogun for information. It is assumed the Kradin found the location of Pinastri before they were fought off and expelled from Shogun.

The Kradin have a strange combination of hive and individual mind. They are able almost telepathically work together, but still retain their individualism. The group encountered was obviously hierarchical and was speaking of the Kradin Vilayet and enlarging it. One can only assume that this is another term for ‘Empire’. It is believed that the Kradin have started towards Pinastri, but as this occurred over 10 years ago and they were encountered approximately 80,000 light years from Pinastri it should take approximately 78 years for them to arrive at Warp 8, of which 10 years have passed. However, as the Captain’s Yacht from USS Shogun piloted by an Emergency Command Hologram was able to find various shortcuts to arrive much sooner, it can only be assumed that this threat is both present and evolving.

In summary, the Kradin could arrive in days, weeks, years, or decades but they are working towards our position and they do know where Pinastri is. They present a significant threat as their technology, unlike the one Voyager found, is quite advanced. It is conceivable that due to exploration and potential schism, like that of the Vulcans and Romulans, that different divisions of this species exists. Starfleet should be ready in case of contact between deep space assets and Pinastri itself for an eventual incursion.

On Stardate 220519 one Rahn'Denni Silver was taken prisoner when found in possession of a Starfleet shuttlecraft that was supposed to have been destroyed. Through interrogation it was discovered that Silver is a member of a far reaching criminal organization known as the Allagi Network which is now confirmed to be operating on Charon's Beacon and like is in operation throughout Federation space, Kazon space, and Romanulan space.

At least the Charon's Beacon chapter of the Allagi Network is operating under the direction of a woman named Lorelei and has in its employ Orions, Humans, and Ferengi. The group seems to truck in stolen luxury goods as well as dilithium and ship supplies. From accounts the group should be considered dangerous.

The current theory of operation is that the group purposely chooses borderlands to operate. The group will take part in its criminal activities just outside of Federation reach and so the laws of the Federation do not immediately apply. If the organization on the other side of the border decides to investigate the group, they quickly skirt to the Federation side of the border and protest that they are Federation citizens and in Federation space making them immune to immediate prosecution. As their crimes are serious, but not warranting a diplomatic incident the Kazon or Romulan authorities generally ignore the transgression. It is unknown how long Allagi Network has operated in this manner.

The threat for escalation on the part of this criminal group is high as the quest for greater and greater monetary reward will often push these sorts of organizations to take greater and more violent risks. They should be viewed carefully and approached with caution. Still, if other ships in the fleet were to make a concentrated effort to disband, arrest, or otherwise disrupt the activities of Allagi Network it could gravely harm organized crime in this sector of space.

Recently, the crew of the USS Veracruz has encountered a legendary phenomena, the Space Cat (AKA Q’s Cat, the Kryptonian Feline, The Ghost Cat of Outer Space, The Four Legged Anomaly, etc.). If they survive their experience, more information will follow.

The first sighting of a strange cat that floated in space and seemingly attacked ships was made in close to the Juhraya Colony of the Federation. The description was as follows:

“The cat was as black as pitch, but its eyes were almost ablaze with hatred and fury. A malevolence crept out of the entity like that which we had never seen before. Seemingly able to match our impulse and warp speeds it followed the USS Biko, harassing any smaller craft that launched from it along the way. Those who got close enough to the four legged anomaly stated that it looked like a regular cat, except for the fire that was in its eyes and the teeth, which seemed to flash in the light of the stars.”



The animal has also been reported as incredibly strong, once taking down a runabout close to New Cairo Colony. Although in this case, it should be noted that no evidence of the entity’s actual intervention has been found and the pilot did have an open and empty bottle of Romulan ale in the cockpit with him.

The ability to survive the vacuum of space, its preternatural strength, and its ability to move past conventional shielding of craft has also given the entity the nickname “Q’s Cat”. Several people actually believe that the entity could, in fact, be a Q who has become bored and is harassing ships in this form ‘for fun’.

Regardless of intent or origin, reports of The Ghost Cat of Outer Space regularly come in, most especially from crews who have not been off rotation for over twelve hours.

The teenager known as Aziz Rhode-Randt-Mistwallow has both remarkable and troubling traits. From what I have ascertained, he was rescued from Kazon slavers and is of half-Romulan descent. The youth has a remarkable, and quite frightening, intellect and is able to absorb information readily and apply it. Unfortunately, Aziz also contains the sum of his experience, meaning that he seems to be suffering from fairly acute post-traumatic stress disorder. Time will tell whether he can move past this trauma and whether he will enter Starfleet as his adoptive parents hope he will. In truth, any career path is open to him and more emphasis should probably be put on him becoming a useful member of society however he may so choose rather than a specific pathway.

The interaction between youth and parent is an interesting affair as it seems to vacillate from a strong need on both parts to outright anger and rejection. This may be common for the species involved, but it is very different from traditional Bolian upbringing where duty or artistry is generally stressed but one's expectation of reverence to the parental unit is absolute. However, I digress. At this point no evidence of programming by the teen's Kazon captives has been observed and his threat level seems that of a normal teenager, which while alarming in its own right, is not of threat to the vessel or Starfleet on the whole.

At some point, I will attempt to discuss the capture of Aziz with him as well as his parents as there is a possibility that Starfleet personnel and Federation citizens are being held in like fashion in other Kazon enclaves. However, first the trauma has to somehow be bypassed so damage is not done to Aziz's psyche.

On Stardate 220630, the USS Veracruz encountered... itself... crashed on a planetary surface. All immediate evidence points to the fact that this is the near-future Veracruz, I even found my own skeleton.



As the mission progresses we continue to work through data files and other evidence to try to piece together what has happened. As always is the case, while I do have concerns for USS Veracruz and its crew, I also have to consider the fate of the Federation in this vicinity.

While no temporal waves have been detected as yet, the possibility does exist that this is the beginning of a powerful Temporal Anomaly. Paradoxical in nature, this event should be taken seriously and UFS Starfleet should move into at least Level 3 of Alertness for Temporal Rifts and Explosions. All records and information should be put in temporally shielded containers immediately fleetwide to prevent the corruption of data and information critical to the running of Starfleet.

The examination of this temporal disturbance in this area of space and the subsequent closure of it made evident that there was no immediate danger of full loss of temporal cohesion. The closing of the disturbance itself did cause a SPACIAL TEMPORAL WAVE PACKET (Yessenov, et al.) that was sent out AWAY from Pinastri, and which did not affect Veracruz due to proximity and proper precautions.



HOWEVER, it is advised that future missions be sent to this part of space to ensure that the temporal wave did not affect any areas, planets, stations, or ships from other peoples in this part of space. This also would give the Science Branch a unique opportunity to study the effects on non-living matter caught in the wake of spacial temporal wave packets.

I have been alerted by Captain Finistair of a problem occurring with Starfleet data systems. The issues seem to be minor at the moment, and containable by Starfleet technicians, however there is a great possibility for data loss and incursion. Intelligence Officers are currently instructed to discreetly check their duty stations, be they starships or stations, to ensure that data is secure and operating systems updated with proper security systems. Furthermore, please check your duty station for any evidence of 'rogue' programs or data. Collect to source where is possible. Do not simply destroy the item, do your best to contain it. All rogue data and/or programs are currently evidence and needed for full covert investigations. Partition the rogue items off but do not destroy until fully examined and classified.

When first met by Admiral Janeway, the Kazon-Hobii were one of the weaker of the eighteen sects that a peace arrangement was attempted with. Since that time in 2372, the Kazon-Hobii have strengthened their overall hold on their part of the system. The Kazon-Hobii have managed to acquire more advanced technology but still lag in shield stabilization development/theft. Currently the Kazon-Hobii have entered into a non-aggression pact with the Federation that outlines their agreement not to cross the border into Federation Space, and the Federation’s agreement to do the same. Up until recently the treaty has been mostly honoured.

At this point it seems likely that the Kazon-Hobii have entered into an agreement with another sect, the Kazon-Ulgath. The overall arrangement is reminiscent of that taking place between Rome and Carthage after the Second Punic War during which an allied Carthaginian sect of bandits would race across the border and harass and rob Roman settlements and then run back across into Carthage to avoid prosecution. Because the Ulgath are not the Hobii, Federation assets are still held by the same restrictions of the treaty. It should be noted, however, that historically while this tactic on the part of the Carthaginians did work for a time, eventually Rome became frustrated and attacked Carthage to get the bandits, sparking a Third Punic War that resulted in the utter destruction of Carthage.

On Stardate 160424, then Jal Yonit was part of a general attack on a landing party attempting diplomatic ties with a race known as the Mazarq. As this civilization was close to Kazon-Hobii space and they felt threatened by the presence of the Federation, they attacked the USS Sabin landing party without provocation and took several prisoner. After a period of torture, large led by Yonit, the prisoners were summarily executed. As no attempts at negotiation or any other diplomacy were attempted on the part of Yonit, the event is considered a war crime under the auspices of Starfleet.

Since that time, the Kazon-Hobii have worked out a complex border treaty with the Federation that is supposed to support the transfer of accused War Criminals to the Federation for prosecution but have found reasons to avoid following through with that commitment. Now Maje Yonit has been encountered in Kazon-Hobii space recently by the USS Veracruz, which was diplomatically unable to arrest or detain Yonit due to the nature of their mission and agreement with the Kazon-Hobii leadership.



Maje Yonit is part of the current military structure of the Kazon-Hobii, one of the larger Kazon sects bordering Federation space. The Kazon-Hobii have a border treaty with the Federation currently and a tenuous peace has been holding since 170201.

Yonit is in possession of a fairly advanced Kazon-Hobii cruiser, utilizing ‘acquired’ technology, the cruiser operates at roughly a 2375 CE equivalent.

Yonit is under a detain and return order. He is wanted to stand trial in the Federation over crimes against Starfleet personnel including the kidnapping and murder of several USS Sabin crew.

Maje Yonit is to be assumed dangerous due to previous behaviours and his crimes overall.

Summary: The Sslishmaka species was first encountered by USS Shogun-A on 230521, while trying to complete a mission of mercy. They appeared moving at slipstream drive speeds without a slipstream engaged and knocked Shogun out of warp.

The Universal Translator had some difficulty with the language at first, indicating that this species has a linguistic system that was not encountered by the Federation before. Once the UT worked, the crew of USS Shogun were informed that they had violated the timeline as well as multiverse by utilizing a piece of technology found on a planet. When it was explained that the technology had co-opted ship’s systems and they had made alterations only in order to return home, the Sslishmakan Captain stated they did not believe them and passed instant judgement. The punishment was trapping USS Shogun in what appeared to be an endless slipstream tunnel to nowhere.

Timeline:

230521 - First Contact with Sslishmaka by USS Shogun-A. Judgement against USS Shogun for using technology that impact timelines and other dimensions.

Culture: Very little is known at this point, but they seem to be self appointed guardians of the timeline and multiverse. They seem extremely driven to do their jobs and have little empathy or understanding of others.

Technology: Their insect/arachnid shaped ships function using conventional engine systems but also are capable of generating slipstreams, time travel, and dimensional shift. They are greatly more advanced than the Federation.

Recommendations: While not bloodthirsty, what seems to be an unrelenting pursuit of their mission seems to be a key aspect of their society. They are more technologically advanced that Federation vessels, skipping through time and dimensions as a matter of course. Keeping a distance is probably the best way of dealing with them.
