Arrived safely Astraios Sector. Commander Hermans and I travelled in our personal Runabout with a small crew. The Runabout is fully equipped with Medical Bay, Warp Drive, Shields and Weapons. Our duty was to escort the transport ship. The remainder of our party remained on the cargo vessel. The tractor beam pulling the larger part of the starbase for deployment here was problematic during the voyage. We stopped twice at stations along the way for repairs. However, we arrived safe and sound. Pinastri seems very far away. We scanned some interesting systems during our journey. I gathered data to share with our SC Science when he or she is appointed.

Our Runabout is a sturdy craft. She sustained some damage during contact with an asteroid belt. Repairs to her are low priority. There is nowhere for us to live yet. We use her as our bedroom. Rations are low and replicators are not working on the partially assembled station. We have chosen to stay in geosynchronous orbit above the Colony proper as the ground is a mess.

This Colony was established some time ago for scientific study of Astraios and the surrounding area. It was abandoned after a short time due to rising hostilities in the Sector. Those issues have been resolved. The infrastructure left behind is unfortunately corroded or decaying and not much use. Ground crews have spent some days dismantling what was left behind.

Top priority for Engineering is unloading and checking our cargo, and then assembling the starbase. It will provide the Colony and the Sector with protection. Especially while we build, we are vunerable. Security teams are taking watches in the cargo ship and on the ground. Our Runabout computer is set to alert us if any ships enter the Sector.

Work continues. The starbase infrastructure has been fully assembled. Decks, equipment, furnishings and amenities need to be added. We do have (finally) a working transporter. Unfortunately not a cargo transporter. We are forced to use the transporters on the transport vessel to move items from place to place. My Transporter Techs are worn out. Everyone is. Yet as we look around we see, day to day, what we have accomplished. There is a great sense of teamwork. Everyone has a vested interest in the vision.

On the ground, landscaping has begun. Construction of Headquarters, which will also house our Welcome Centre, barracks, the Academy, etc, has started. Engineers are also creating a beautiful looking building for private residences. We hope some of the local inhabitants will come to live on the base, bringing their merchandise for the marketplace or their helping hands to some of the support jobs we have created. We welcome civilians as well as those interested in a Starfleet career.

To that end, myself and several officers paid a visit to Our Town, one of the central gathering places of the inhabitants. We were able to speak to a small number of residents. All seemed friendly and supportive. Some were even excited to know we are establishing a base here. The past troubles with hostile neighbours are not forgotten.

Commander Hermans has gathered a good team. More are arriving via private transport or UFS starships on patrol. We have spent hours pouring over schematics and blueprints, discussing personnel assignments, organizing materials for a recruitment drive, the list goes on.

Never have I been more impressed with Engineers. I wake up every morning to see what they have accomplished during the night. I am amazed at the precise planning and execution that is building this Colony.

As SC Operations my primary task has been to handle the communications for us in the Sector. The power grid is not yet operational. Transporter use is constant. Supplies, materials, personnel, equipment needs to be moved in an orderly fashion. We have had to set some priorities.

Instances of items being placed and dematerializing have been reported on the starbase. I suspect it may be an issue with the replicators being used to create some items. I have instructed one of my staff to follow the trail to see if we can identify which one. However, I recall that SS Alexandria was having a replicator issue. I cannot verify if/how they have resolved this until our communications array is deployed and functioning.

Dr Torin and Professor Clowes arrived today, bringing with them orders from Starfleet Command. A pleasure to meet them. They both will be performing vital work. We are anxious to begin recruiting.

After reviewing the communiqués from UF Starfleet Operations, Commander Hermans called me to one side. HQ was concerned that he had not yet appointed an Executive Officer. I was surprised when he asked me to take the position. I was very reluctant at first. I am trained in Operations and fully aware of the responsibilities of that role. After some discussion, we agreed I would be appointed Acting XO. The CO plans daily training sessions with the XO and Sector Chiefs.

Tomorrow we meet on SS Astraios with all Senior officers. Engineering will boost power to our partially assembled communications array. We hope to get Starbase Command on audio for a briefing.

(110112) Today I awoke at 0900 hours. Some would say that was sleeping in. However, I was up until nearly 3 a.m. attempting to complete some reports. The computer lost them the first time. I write this (yes, write this) at midnight, only 15 hours later. The computer is now refusing to accept voice commands. I have been in this uniform all day. Training with the Sector Commander, studying, assisting Sector Chiefs, welcoming visitors, taking images for a report to the Admiral, researching and writing a draft history of the sector for UFS LCARS, writing an informative article for Starfleet communication channels (I attempted to send it to Pinastri via our newly deployed long range communication array. I received no acknowledgement). A long day. I forgot to eat supper.

As I speak to each member of our team I am more and more convinced we have chosen the right people for this challenge.

It is barren and lonely here, but our creative and highly treasured Osky Oldrich, UFS Branch Commander of Engineering, delights us every day with his work. On the ground, landscaping, bridge building, repairs of our runabout, a nearly complete Welcome Centre, functioning Security Division offices, turbo lifts and transports, classrooms, the Commandants office, have all been completed; in orbit the starbase hull is assembled, transporter room is functioning (when the computer allows), turbo lift working to take you to the deck that holds our briefing room. All in an amazing six days. Now he is working on sickbay.

Astraios Academy Commandment Jen Clowes has begun the work to organize and prepare materials for the Cadets who will soon come through our doors. I enjoyed talking to him about class texts and history. He has a wonderful sense of humour. He is quick to do any duty discussed. Our problem is accessing Academy materials through the proper channels. At this distance and with our continuing computer issues and power fluctuations, communication with UFSA is proving difficult.

Sector Chief of Security Jatan Rodas has begun, when the computer cooperates, sensor sweeps of the sector with the freshly assembled long range scanners. We issued a security alert to the general population today when a rogue Cardassian merchant vessel proved to be heavily armed. We used our runabout to escort the protesting “trader” from the sector. Our first action was met with relief from the inhabitants. Jatan is also assisting us with writing and logging our experiences to date.

Sector Chief Medical, Ysolla Torin and I had a long planning session this evening and an excellent conversation. I am confident that the medical needs of our Colony and the greater population will be well served by Dr Torin and her Assistant Sector Chief, Dr Piper Mureau. Dr Mureau submitted a thorough report assessing the current needs and detailing plans for the future.

Lastly I must commend our Sector Commander for his utter devotion to duty. His example and his leadership exemplify the finest qualities Starfleet expects. He patiently gives direction. He works tirelessly at his own tasks. We wonder when he sleeps.

On a personal note I missed a meal today. I realize this is not acceptable. I had one minor dizzy spell. I am finding it difficult. The replicators are hit and miss, the local food is different. I miss the fresh fruits and vegetables of Pinastri. My discomfort is increased by my inability to shift. I have only been able to take one other form since we arrived. Normally, any minor health issues are resolved by shifting. I experienced this once before, many years ago, after a long journey. I suspect holding my base form for so long in front of the small crew of the runabout during our journey here put me in a kind of stasis. I have not spoken to my husband about this, it would only worry him and there is little he can do to help. Time, and less stress, may be the cure. I will add that although we are here together, our duties have made it impossible to spend any time alone. We hope that will rectify itself soon, as the groundwork is laid and our Senior Staff take on more responsibility. Overall I remain in good health and the youngling enjoys turning somersaults in the middle of the night to wake me. I do not mind.

(110114) Work continues. The Medical Bay is complete. Science, Engineering, Operations Divisions offices and workspaces are now under construction. Our simulator is being assembled. Our “10-Forward”, Guinan’s, has been completed. We now have a place for our Cadets to socialize. Yes. We have Cadets. Two, one Alpha and one Delta. Our CO, former Professor Hermans, taught our first class today. We are still coordinating procedures with Starfleet Headquarters in Delta Quadrant, difficult at this distance and with our continuing computer problems.

I take images of the work as it progresses. I discuss procedures and assign tasks to Sector Chiefs. I study LCARS. I await reports from Security, Medical and Science on this planet, its population, flora and fauna. I station myself in the Welcome Centre to greet visitors from the local area as well as potential cadets. I have been invited to attend events by one of the Astraionian leaders, I have assured them that one or more of us will be present at a Community Meeting Saturday and a celebration Sunday.

The Commander and I were able to take a walk through the grounds yesterday. We had some time alone at last. He expressed concern over my inability to shift. He surprised me with some fresh fruit he had replicated. I was delighted! He showed me some fruit trees that had been planted. We do not know if they will flourish here. (I had a slight concern over introducing a foreign plant to this world. I shall mention it to Science.) We were deep in personal conversation, enjoying being together for the first time in days, when we were informed the Chief of Staff was on long range comms from Pinastri. We immediately returned to base. The Admiral also was in contact with us. After that, we had several visitors, including someone interested in joining us as a Cadet. We were not able to return to our conversation.

We do not have anywhere to live as yet.

This is the third time I have attempted to record this report.

Stardate 110118

Situation: The CO was away for a day or two, and when he returned, he was not well at all. I insisted he rest. I had the conn. My first real taste of Command. Four days of report writing. Responding to questions. Dealing with new and ongoing issues. Giving tours. Even writing minutes of meetings.

Overall my impressions of the team we have gathered here is positive. There are so many growing pains. Equipment from the Delta Quadrant does not seem to function effectively here. Our Engineers are constantly battling the elements. We try to be an organized chaos. It seems in one moment that there is nothing to be done and everything to be done.

We have been receiving visitors. Curious officers and marines from our base in Pinastri, passing by on their long journey to or from Deep Space Nine, have been dropping in now the Sector is secure. At the last village community meeting, I invited inhabitants to come and see the base, even in its unfinished state. We have had several come by. A few have indicated their interest in joining Starfleet.

Today I welcomed two potential Cadets. Branch Commander Engineering Osly Oldrich (who has been doing a masterful job of supervising his team and building our Colony) had been giving them a tour. They were both very eager to sign up. One wishes to be Medical and the other Science. I spoke with them for some time and answered their questions.

Unfortunately, however, we had a major security breach today. Commander Oldrich had a personal runabout he was performing some repairs on. He reported that it had been stolen. It was located on the land next to where we are building. I spent some time speaking with him and the local authorities in this regard. Apparently the perpertrator is known to village security. They assured me this Being will be dealt with severely. Due to this incursion I have made this order: the current DEFSTAT of Astraios Colony is DEFSTAT 4.

In among the work, I have had the opportunity to have more interesting conversations with Dr Piper Mureaux our Vice Sector Chief Medical and Lt Commander Data Axel, our Sector Chief Science, as well as our new Vice Sector Chief Operations, Soggy Bang. A bit of a character *smiles*. Campus Director Jen Clowes has been hard at work organizing our class materials for the Academy, I have requested all Sector Chiefs assist in the transfer of materials for the classes in their Branch to lighten his load. I was pleased to have Dr Ysolla Torin join me on a fact-finding mission to one of the local villages last weekend. The CO had just appointed our Sector Chief Engineering, Ronin Calayan will be joining us shortly. Jatan Rodas, our Sector Chief Security, has been busy in the outlying areas surveying the planet for a recon report I requested. Lastly, we were pleased to welcome Commodore Darren Reinder to Astraios. His role of UFS Director of Colonization is meant to assist us in liaison between Sector Command and the Admiral at Starfleet HQ.

I created a Weekly Calendar for the Welcome Centre. I have established what I call an "XO Office Hour" two or three mornings a week when my door will be open to anyone, including Cadets, to answer questions or discuss concerns. As Vice Sector Commander the morale of the staff falls to me. In this respect I have also scheduled some casual briefings at lunch time in our Guinan's; a Commencement/Graduation celebration at noon on Wednesdays; and a social gathering on Friday's at noon. I asked Dr Mureaux if it was possible for Medical to setup and run a Meditation hour on the weekends.

I also created a form I have sent to the PADD's of all personnel to complete with some basic information for my files. This will assist me in the planning of training sessions, battle drills, and social events.

I have requested all Sector Chiefs to file, at minimum, a weekly report of their status.

Personally I have been feeling better. My ability to shift is still limited, however, I was able to morph into an Andorian form today. My husband and I were able to spend the evening together before he left for Pinastri, the first time we have been able to spend more than a few minutes with one another since we arrived at Astraios, and the first time we have been able to put aside our duties and talk of other things. He is concerned about my welfare and my workload, this time with him assisted me to relax.

Having sufficient private time is difficult right now. We have no quarters. We do not even have offices yet. I find myself either using Guinen's or a spare office to be alone and work quietly.

A communique arrived from the Admiral yesterday in which he informed us that Command is to be strategically billeted on the starbase when it is operational. My heart fell. The reason I chose to be posted to a station at Pinastri is that I need to be close to the ocean, the forests, the grass. Even there I had great difficulty choosing between Pathfinder, on the ground near the ocean, or Alexandria, the home of the Academy in orbit above.

I had expected to be working for the most part in the new Atraios HQ building that houses the Welcome Centre and Academy. I have asked the Engineer if it would be possible for me to have a "Ready Room" at the base on the ground for my meetings with officers, staff and visitors. If that is permitted I will feel a little easier. I do not yet know where we are expected to live.

It is now after midnight, the end of another long day. I have had the occasional communication from Benjamin, mostly about official matters, from his bed in sickbay. I must go look at him before I sleep myself.

Save file.

Computer, please tell me you saved this file.

Computer, begin recording.

Vice Commander’s Personal log Stardate 110126

ACADEMY: The Academy is progressing. We are still working on the transfer of class materials, Campus Director Jen Clowes is coordinating the set-up and doing a good job under difficult circumstances. Engineering is working on a teleprompter for the teaching of classes. We are not sure if this will be feasible for this location due to a dampening field that seems to affect some of our regular equipment.

ADVERTISING: I have offered to write a regular article for the Astraois Community Newsletter which is starting up again. I continue to take photographs of our build. I have been granted permission to place a sign about UFS in the Community area at Our Town. I created posters advertising our Condos for Rent and for the Vendor rental in our Marketplace.

COMMUNITY LIAISON: I have attended several social events and a Community Meeting. The purpose of this is both to create relationships with others here on a professional and personal level; to gain knowledge of how the local government operates and what facilities, organizations or general knowledge may be of assistance to us; to raise the UF Starfleet profile in this new world.

INSPECTION: The Director of Colonization, Commodore Darren Reiner has ordered an inspection of Astraios Colony and SS Astraois this Sunday at 1000 hours sharp. I have advised all personnel to report to me at 0945 hours to fall in.

MEDICAL: I have asked Medical to contact all Officers assigned to this Sector and perform an exam for our records. This is in addition to the standard Cadet physical. Tricorders and other medical equipment are sorely needed, we lost some in transit.

MISSION PLANNING: In order to facilitate official Missions (and events) I have created a form for all personnel to complete with their time zone and availability.

RECRUITMENT: We have five cadets with us now. Four Freshman and one Sophomore.

SECTOR CHIEF PROJECTS: 1) I have approved the drafting of an Astraios Sector Science Branch Manual. SC Axel cleared this with his BC and has begun his research. 2) SC Bang has expressed interest in writing something similar for Operations, I advised him to clear it with his BC and, as my former Branch was Operations, I agreed to work with him on outlining what the manual will cover.

VICE SECTOR COMMANDER MEET AND GREET: Knowing each Officer, Marine and Cadet at Astraois is important to me in my role as "XO". Therefore I have established a policy that each officer transferring in and each cadet arriving for training will have a short meeting with me.

VICE SECTOR COMMANDER 'OFFICE HOUR' and/or 'CASUAL BRIEFING': I have scheduled an Office Hour two or three times a week when any personnel or Cadet may visit with me for a few minutes to ask questions or chew the fat; I have also scheduled Casual Briefings at Guinan's for available officers to chat over coffee and snacks.

Personally I am feeling more comfortable, although my body is changing due to the youngling I feel very well. I have been able to shift a few times. My husband and I still have difficulty finding time alone without interruption, however we have been able to talk more often and even plan the possibility of renting a condo on the base or perhaps even a house on the outskirts of town, near the forest and streams. It is amazing to me that I, the one who hid away on strange planets, who moved from world to world in search of I know not what, who shut herself in the barracks for months at a time to avoid others, now feels a sense of loss if she does not hear the voice of this one Being every day.

We are to travel to the Delta Quadrant to attend the Admiral’s Annual Banquet in a few days. Our runabout is repaired. At the fastest Warp, we should arrive in time.

Computer, end recording.

Computer: Vice Sector Commander's Log, Stardate 110129. Audio only.

*Stretches*

Today was an extremely busy day. I was to teach a class to our new Cadets at 1000 hours but they were unable to make it, that gave me some extra time. I worked to transfer some materials from the Delta Quadrant LCARS to ours. The process is a somewhat labourious due to our continuing computer issues. This may resolve as engineering is able to stabilize the SS Astraios reactor core. After a brief break for a meal, I attended the Community Meeting held in the village at 1300 hours. During this meeting I was also on my PADD in communication with various people, including Benjamin, who is still unwell and continues to do too much. I persuaded him to rest for a short period before the Admirals Banquet, which we attended holographically as Benjamin was too ill to make the journey. I also communicated with our Wedding Planner. I am finding the planning of the wedding to be somewhat frustrating as my vision of what should happen differs from theirs, I had to change some of my ideas to accomodate their technical limitations.

*Takes a final sip of tepid Earl Grey*

During a break I also spent some time organizing the Protocols for tomorrow's Inspection. The Banquet itself as enjoyable and interesting as some changes to Starfleet Command were announced. I was very pleased to hear that Branch Commander of Engineering Osky Oldrich was promoted to Captain. Unfortunately by the time the speeches and award presentation were completed, Benjamin was extremely tired. I insisted he go to bed. I was disappointed we were not able to participate in the dance but his health must come first.

I spoke for some time to Campus Director Jen Clowes, who has been diligently working to obtain and organize the materials our Academy will need, with the assistance of some of the Sector Chiefs and myself. I was not happy to hear that some of the communications I have sent seem to have been missed. In the absence of a Yeoman I spend a great deal of time writing and posting meeting announcements, memos, minutes and private messages, as well as maintaining a Weekly Schedule in the lobby of the Welcome Centre. We are hampered in our communications due to the inability to send notices locally when someone has their PADD turned off. Private messages do not always seem to be recieved. I pointed this difficulty out to UF Starfleet Command some time ago. If we can get the computer up to speed perhaps we can have a central database that all Astraios personnel can access for this information. Communication is vital if our team is to work effectively together.

*Walks to the replicator to obtain another cup of tea. "Computer, Earl Grey, hot." The replicator makes a strange noise. Nothing materializes. Poison paces the room.*

During the banquet I received a message from the printers that a mock-up of our Wedding Invitation was ready. I transported there in full Dress Uniform to see it. I am really pleased with our choice. It should be finished tomorrow and that means I add another item to my to-do list, send the invitations.

Since Benjamin was asleep and I did not care to dance without him, I discontinued the holographic projection and returned to Astraios. I walked through the route for the tour of the Welcome Centre and Starbase the Cadets are to give to the Director of Colonization during tomorrow's inspection. I created Inspection Protocol sheets for the Officers and Cadets as well as a schedule for the Commodore. I took the time to create a second wedding invitation for some of our friends here in Astraios as they do not have UFS PADDs. I made sure the Welcome Centre lawn was ready for the ranks to be in formation; with the assistance of Captain Oldrich I prepared the Briefing Room on SS Astraios for the Sector Briefing.

Tomorrow's schedule for me:

0845 Meet with Cadets, ensure they are clear about their duties during inspection
0930 Take my position in front of the Welcome Centre & inform all Personnel of the schedule and protocols for the Commodore's Inspection
1000 Arrival of Commodore
1015 Commordore's tour begins. Have a comm channel open to the Cadets for questions or concerns
1045 Greet the Commodore and Cadets at the end of the tour on SS Astraios, Command Deck 1. Thank Cadets and dismiss
1100 Astraios Sector Briefing. Take minutes. I have not prepared an XO report I will have to wing it. (Take delivery of Wedding Invitation)
1230 Break (Send out wedding invitations while eating)
1345 Report to Galileo Classroom, Academy Deck, Welcome Centre for Mission Briefing.
1400 Transport to USS Condor, Holobridge, SS Astraios for Mission ("Into the Vortex") *Note: take visuals
1500 Send hologram projection to Pinastri for Awards Ceremony. Benjamin is getting his promotion.
1545 Return to Galileo Classroom, Academy Deck, Welcome Centre for Mission Debriefing
1700 Have a celebratory holographic dance with Lieutenant (jg) BenjaminBastian Toocool if possible.

Item: Edit minutes of Briefing and post them. Post visuals of Mission. Remind personnel participating in the mission to submit logs. Organize my schedule for the week, including shopping for a gown. Reminder to work on transferring Engineering class materials for Academy. Send a note to the Wedding Party regarding the rehearsal.

*Yawns*

Computer, commence recording.

Vice Sector Commander’s Personal Log, Stardate 110204

The end of a long and rather strange day. I felt like I was in some kind of space time disruption. Things would move achingly slowly and I found myself nodding off at my desk. Another moment, I would be in subspace communication with two people, beaming someone to my Ready Room for a meeting, answering questions in text on my PADD, and looking at catalogues of wedding flowers and wedding dresses. Activities that were planned did not occur. People who said they would be present did not appear. Others appeared and disappeared rapidly, without pausing to say a word. I went into the village and spent several hours looking at dresses and flowers, as a book really does not suffice. My shopping trip was interrupted several times. I spoke to my Mermaid of Honour and Flower Drow over subspace. They were cheerful. I also spoke to the equine Best Man, we had a good laugh over my warning that he not eat the wedding flowers until after the ceremony. I reached the end of the day, tired, ready to step into the solar shower and then climb into bed when I realized I had yet to do something extremely important. I had remembered it more than once this week. However, the pressures of work and organizing the wedding, my clothing and accessories along with other duties, put it out of my mind. Mercifully, the replicator cooperated, I was able to get a good hot pot of Earl Grey (something I’ve grown fond of as it is one of Benjamin’s favourite beverages), and sit down to draft my wedding vows.

In terms of Astraios, each day brings highs and lows. More cadets have joined us. The organization of the Academy is a huge job but it is progressing. Each day the engineers surprise us with their careful work of building and programming our amazing starbase. We now have a Sector Chief Security, a vital position for us to fill since we are responsible for the safety of the cadets here, as well as the high ranking officials who visit often, along with the civilian communities of Astraios itself. The technical issues persist yet with creativity and dedication the team works together to find solutions.

Personally, I confess I felt bone weary and tearful at least twice this week. I have been concerned about Benjamin, perhaps overly so, yet he was very ill last week and took a LOA which is very unusual for him. Since I did not wish to worry him or add to his stress, I took upon myself all the details of the wedding, sending out invitations and reminders to the guests and wedding party___ both in the Delta Quadrant and in the Gamma Quadrant. So far everyone has received an invitation and a reminder, one more will be sent in the early hours of the morning. I wish the computer could be programmed to do this automatically but currently I had to send each one individually. In addition to that, I have dealt with a myriad of questions and issues around procedure and action items, even down to the question of uniforms and who may have them and when. At least twice when dealing with superior officers I felt myself feeling their responses could be friendlier__ however, now having experienced having 5 or 6 conversations at once I begin to understand the pressures of work they have to deal with. I am also aware my personal stress level could well make me extra sensitive.

During these past 10 or 12 days I have not morphed, this is part of my issue. I am on hand day and night for my people and I would not have it any other way. They need me and I feel strongly that I must provide the best leadership I am capable of. I, along with Benjamin and the rest of our team are determined that we will put all our effort into making Astraois a successful colony. I am very proud of what we have accomplished so far, and each member of our team, including our Cadets, has a hand in that.

Tomorrow__ well, today, now__ is a day I have looked forward to for several weeks. Benjamin and I are already Joined in every way possible, yet, this Terran ceremony has come to have a special meaning for me. We share our celebration with our friends in Starfleet and civilians from other worlds. I have carefully planned my schedule for the upcoming week so we may spend more time together than we have been able to do since we arrived. Our Sector Chiefs are well prepared and can handle the conn if the CO and VSC are otherwise engaged. I look forward to spending some time alone with my husband.

Overall, I remain in good health and now that this day has arrived, I feel a sense of profound happiness. Our youngling grows well, it will not be long now until he joins us. I anticipate his birth in April or May. He will arrive when he is ready. He already speaks to us in his own way. His movements seem to punctuate my thoughts sometimes. His energy flows into me, and mine to him. I see Benjamin’s face light up when he feels his son’s energy enter his form, and when he hears his baby’s voice in his mind. One thing that has amazed me from the beginning is how easily Benjamin accepts the differences that I present. I morph, he is calm. Light flows from me to him, he opens his heart to it. There is truly something special about him, and what we create together in our Joining.

Vice Sector Commanders Log
Stardate: 1786 / 110310

I do my best to cope with the many changes that have occured over the past few days. I must provide solid leadership for the crew who have travelled with me back in time. Our engineers work 24/7, trying to understand what happened. Science is divided between assisting engineering, and surveying the planet below and the system around us. Security never sleeps, worried that technologically advanced species in the nearby systems may notice our sudden arrival and feel threatened. Oh for a cloaking device. We have moved the starbase as high in orbit as we dare, hoping to avoid any contamination to any life on the planet below. On a personal note, I am afraid for my youngling. His energy, once abundant, pulses less and less frequently in my womb. He misses his father, as do I. My heart is silently breaking. Yet I must be strong for the others around me.

Sector Commander's Log
Stardate 110328

It is with a great deal of sadness that I say the words "Sector Commander's Log". I came to Astraios with a vibrant partner and I strove always to stand by his side and support him in his work. When he said he was leaving his position, I___ I cannot even put into words what I felt. I must admit I avoid Command Deck 2 now. My Ready Room, silent, across the hall from his empty office, makes my heart ache.

I briefly thought of leaving myself, desparing of stepping forward without him. But then I remembered the officers who have been working with me, and the citizens of Astraios, and I knew I could not let them down.

The past few days have been difficult. Picking up the reins of Command and all the duties and tasks that now fall to me. Speaking with the members of my team, individually and in groups, asking for their input and suggestions. Devising projects and sorting out priorities.

Our Colony is tiny but each day we take another step forward in progress. We are dogged by the planet's seeming disenchantment with our presence, items disappear, systems fail, even the rugs change. Sometimes we cannot even see each other. During one gathering we each took images of the group and I was amazed to see that we each had a different perspective of the people standing next to us.

My involvement with the Community continues, I am warmly welcomed whereever I go, and the people of Astraios seem very happy that we have reestablished our base here. Some have joined us at the Academy or are willing to work with us as Civilian members as needed.

Yesterday I was proud to receive the Christopher Pike Award and also a Commendation for Dedication for Duty. I will admit__ when I saw the announcement I wept. I cannot say why. I was simply overcome with a mix of acute sadness and gratefulness. I travelled to the Delta Quadrant with my Sector Chief Security, through the Iconian Gateway, to attend the Award Ceremony and meetings with the Chief of Starfleet Operations. It was good to see some familiar faces and I was able to visit with one or two friends before we had to leave again for Astraios.

It is very late now, I should sleep. I seem to avoid sleep these days. I seldom shift. My energies are very low. Spring comes soon to Astraios Prime. Soon the fruit trees that Jam had planted for me near our Welcome Centre will bloom. I still remember the day he took me there, hand in hand, showing me the garden he had made, and offering me the fruit he had managed to obtain for me. I had never tasted a better orange, I had missed them so much. The love that swelled in my heart for his care of me remains there still, as it was in the beginning, so it continues, without diminishing.

I have heard there is a beautiful forest in one area, with acres of flowers blooming. I will try to find some time to walk there this week. My soul needs a garden___ I am unused to spending days and weeks on spacestations and in enclosed spaces. It seems odd that I, who preferred to be alone through all my years___ now feels a sense of acute loneliness wherever I go.

Sector Commander's Log
Stardate 110404

The spirit of the Wolf is my guide in many things. She came to me when I was a youngling, cast adrift on the shores of an unknown sea on a world that was new to me. I do not remember my mother, save that her wings were a shimmering gold. I saw them rise into the sky, followed by something dark and sinister. I lay there for many days. The she-wolf came. I looked at her, and became like her. She cared for me. Years passed, she grew old and died. Yet her thoughts are with me.

Work continues non-stop, the list of tasks to do never gets shorter. However with each day we move forward another step. Astraios is living and breathing. I miss my partner in all aspects of my life. Somehow I try to keep going.

I never had a family before. No parents, brothers or sisters. I was always alone. I hid from other life forms, no matter where I went. Now, I have a tiny family of my own, it seems. Davido and Karl are like big brothers who watch over me; Alia is like the big sister I never had, giving me advice; little sister Dolke makes me laugh; Jen and Data are the strong silent types that make you feel secure when they are around; Mike is the brother who is sometimes away from home. Astro will be joining us soon. We have good friends too, Tinsel, Til, Laz, Song, Sunny, Gail, Kristen, Aldo, Slippin__ too many to name! I am grateful for their presence in this new world and in this new life.

Sector Commander's Log
Stardate 110420.2130

I admit a sense of pride. I look around at the people I work with, the Cadets in our Academy, our newly graduated Ensign, the officers under my command in this brave new world, and I cannot imagine a finer crew. There are bugs to work out, infrastructure to complete, the tasks ahead are many and we are too few. We are all determined to succeed here. I believe we will. We are.

I have instigated a weekly Battle Drill to test the mettle, resources and quick-thinking of personnel. Our Missions of exploration, charting, research and sector security continue.

Beyond Starfleet is also the local civilian population, who have proved to be resourceful, friendly and supportive.

And, Astraios Prime is beautiful. It has its barren rocky places, its high mountains, its lush forests, and beautiful gardens. I feel more and more at home here. Still I miss my Jam. Every day and every night.

The work is absorbing, engaging, sometimes frustrating. But each day is another small step for UF Starfleet Astraios. Another brick in the foundation of something meaningful and right.

Time for sleep. Tomorrow is another day.

I can't wait.

Sector Commander's Log

I took time out during the weekend to visit a Class-M forest I know well on Pinastri Prime. It was lovely to sit under the trees, listening to the water fall, and watch birds soar in the sky above. I spoke very little to those I encountered, not feeling shy has much as needing to be alone with my thoughts. I carried a PADD with me, along with some fruit and water to drink. I wrote lists of things I need to do. Things like setting up some Astraios Command Procedures, notes to write to personnel, tasks to remember. But mostly I just was, with the air, the light and the nature around me. I still feel very alone sometimes, in spite of the wonderful people I work with and the engaging work I have to do. I miss my Jam. I suppose I always will.
