MISSION 220826 - Checkmating a Queen

Starfleet re-established its first Colony in the Gamma Quadrant on Astraios Prime on stardate 110111. SS Astraios is a space-station in high orbit above the planet Astraios Prime, to help with its protection and provide a base for the local fleet. UFS Astraios Colony and SS Astraios are tasked with the mission of ‘broadening horizons’ within the Gamma Quadrant, by exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new civilisations.

The opportunity for roleplay Missions is enhanced by the ready availability of a wide variety of locations. As well as the space station SS Astraios and on board NPC ships, including our flagship the Galaxy-class USS Neil Armstrong, there are locations on Astraios Prime (both within the Colony’s many Starfleet regions and on the rest of the planet) and more, both on 3rd Rock Grid and other Grids via the Hypergrid.

In addition to role-play, UFS Astraios hosts a weekly Starfleet Boogie each Tuesday and various events throughout the year.

Kim Korora - The Queen
Ray Dixon - Leader of TRENG

While visiting the Yadhi system, the crew of the USS Armstrong discovered that TRENG (TREman Navigator's Guild) had traded five, obsolete, warp-capable vessels to the Kajj, the newly elected leader of the Jin people. This was concerning as Treman has expressed a desire to join the Federation, and interfering with a pre warp civilization is an enormous breach of the Prime Directive and would disallow membership. Although the Yahdi had accomplished space flight, and colonized a second planet in their own system, they had not been able to leave their own stellar system using their own technology.

We had no indication that the Queen was planning such a move, so the Armstrong immediately left Jin Prime for the Treman system to investigate.

Once in orbit, Captain Soulstar requested an audience with The Queen. The away team, under the command of XO Maven, beamed down for the meeting. The team arrived and was greeted by one of the Queen's functionaries, Ray Dixon, who claimed to have no knowledge of the meeting and stated the Queen was "too busy to talk to the likes of us". As this sort of one-upmanship is typical of the queen, who is a monarch with no requirement to explain her actions to a parliament, she can be both mercurial and reluctant to cooperate.

XO Maven informed Mr. Dixon that we had confirmed a meeting with the Queen, and if she was not willing to discuss concerns about Treman joining the Federation, they would simply return to the Armstrong. Dixon quickly changed his tune and we were escorted to the queen, who met with us in her garden. This was very similar to the Japanese gardens seen in history books and had an air of calm and peace that seemed to bode well for the audience.

XO Maven explained that we had observed Treman ships in the Yadhi system, and had reason to believe that TRENG had transferred several ships to the Kajj. The Queen claimed to know nothing of such an exchange and called on Mr. Dixon to explain. Interestingly, Ray Dixon was the head of TRENG, and had formerly been in command of the pirate faction. He denied any knowledge of this exchange when questioned by the Queen. Dr. Markus has had past experience with Mr. Dixon and revealed to the away team that he was "smooth but can't be trusted".

The Queen promised to investigate but was informed by XO Maven that until such time as this was resolved and explained, Treman could not possibly be considered as a Federation member. Unfortunately, the Queen had an outburst, declaring that "Federation rules are stupid" and that she did not want to follow them,. The XO explained that the Queen had complete authority over her own system, and it was not the Federation's goal to minimize that, but that the rules were necessary, and the Queen could decide that Treman could choose to remain independent or form other alliances, but that all Federation members followed the same rules without exception.

The Queen was able to calm herself and repeated her promise to investigate and inform us of the outcome. Since the Queen has demonstrated that she is concerned about her people, we can only wait to see if this can be resolved. The away team beamed back to the Armstrong, and set course back to the Jin system to further investigate the transferred Treman vessels and establish their location. Fortunately, the Queen ordered Mr. Dixon to provide complete technical specifications of the ships and this should assist in locating them.
