110612 "Lost in Space" USS Argonaut Mission

Starfleet re-established its first Colony in the Gamma Quadrant on Astraios Prime on stardate 110111. SS Astraios is a space-station in high orbit above the planet Astraios Prime, to help with its protection and provide a base for the local fleet. UFS Astraios Colony and SS Astraios are tasked with the mission of ‘broadening horizons’ within the Gamma Quadrant, by exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new civilisations.

The opportunity for roleplay Missions is enhanced by the ready availability of a wide variety of locations. As well as the space station SS Astraios and on board NPC ships, including our flagship the Galaxy-class USS Neil Armstrong, there are locations on Astraios Prime (both within the Colony’s many Starfleet regions and on the rest of the planet) and more, both on 3rd Rock Grid and other Grids via the Hypergrid.

In addition to role-play, UFS Astraios hosts a weekly Starfleet Boogie each Tuesday and various events throughout the year.

Sector Commander's Log
USS Argonaut
Stardate 110612
Position: Somewhere in the Gamma Quadrant

On stardate 110515 we left Astraios Prime on a covert mission to find the source of the ion storm that nearly destroyed SS Astraios and all aboard on 110325. Our course led us near an anomoly. The gravitational pull was extremely powerful and continued resistance could damage or destroy the ship. Acting Captain Alia Soulstar determined the best solution to our dilemma would be to set course straight into the anomoly. The ship traversed what became a wormhole. We arrived in an entirely unknown area of space without any identified space bodies or other charting data to assist us in determining position.

As each day passes, our faith that we will find our way back diminishes... we all remember Voyager... yet morale is consistently positive and every one is performing their duties with due diligence. In the privacy of my quarters I cannot help but add this event to the others that have affected us here... it seems there is someone who is targetting us... why, I cannot say. All I know is... I doubt that all that has happened since we arrived at Astraios on 110111 is serendipity.

We must, at the very least, find a way to communicate with Astraios Station, or the fleet that must be searching for us... or return to the Sector unscathed. Somehow. Somehow.

On our continuing journey to find the source of the ion storm we were pulled in by a Worm Hole. We are still on our search to discover what force is responsible for the ongoing system failures at Astraios, and now we are lost in an unchartered part of the Galaxy.

Our attempt to discover more of the nature of that force. responsible for so much weirdness has ended in an even more precarious situation than before : we are still lost in Space.

But we are Starfleet officers, and we will find a way out of this !
Astraios Officers to be precise, and under the command of SC Poison Tocool.

Our captain ordered us to set a course in an attempt to find the Worm Hole again.
Suddenly a Supernova appeared very close to our ship, and we almost could not escape, even with the help of our powerful Warp engines we had been lost, if not ... the Worm Hole appeared again, pulling us out of the gravitation fields of the Supernova.

At a very safe distance now, we learned our lessons, Science managed to launch a probe through the worm hole, in an attempt to discover our position in Space.

Ens. Barbosa told her captain, she thought she recognized some of the stars we traveled along in this forsaken part of the Universe, and with the help of Science doctor Genny, we sent 2 more probes through the wormhole, so our position could be triangulated by the probes.

The calculations would take some time, but some preliminary readings told us the place where we were now could be the Arion Galaxy, 92 lightyears from Astraios ... not a promising thought ...

Then we were able to assemble a weird and unclear transmission, maybe from a Starship with a name "A ... rg ... t ..."
End of Mission.

Science Log

I was called to the bridge of the Nova Class SS Argonaut to replace an unwell starfleet officer. Whilst trying to establish our whereabouts in the Gamma quadant we were drawn toward a supernova, but were able to escape at Warp5 and discovered the wormhole that we had entered on the last mission. We found that the wormhole was stable and sent a probe through to try to determine where we were. It was then found that if we sent out two more probes and positioned them to triangulate our position we could possible find the Colony. After a good length of time the readings came in that we were in the Arion Galaxy 92 lightyears from home. We are still seeking a way home.

Acting Captain's Log
Stardate 110612

After having been sucked through the wormhole we floated about, still not knowing where in the universe we were. We had three goals to achieve now: Find out where we are, try to contact Astraios and find a method to get home. We found that the wormhole might not be stable enough to carry us home the same way as we came. We decided to relocate and Ensign Barbosa had a theory that a nearby nebula might lead to a clue, so we set course for it at warp speed. On the way our system picked up indications about a supernova, so we went to yellow alert and set course away from it. It had a strong pull and we were close enough to be captured by it, but we managed to get away by plotting in a zig-zag course so that we surfed gravity waves and that way escaped. We got unplanned help from the wormhole which pulled us away from the supernova field.

We ended up near the wormhole but were not sure it would be a good idea to enter it again. I ordered a probe sent into it to investigate . The signals from the probe did not clearly identify what's on the other side, nor could it help revealing our current position. We sent in two more probes to make a triangulated localisation system to help us getting the position of the other end of the wormhole. Science ran a 3D analysis of the incoming data, and two star systems were recognized. Further more we received a coded signal - it sounded as if it was coming from USS Argonaut ????? We lost the signal at that point, and science got the result out of the received data that our own position happened to be in galaxy Arion, 92 light years from home!

Captain's log, Stardate 110619
Alia Soulstar

I retook command of the Argonaut after a spell of sickness and ordered that we return to the wormhole as it offered our only hope of return to our galaxy. We thereafter detected a starfleet probe that had been sent through the wormhole to communicate with us. The communication was. at first, baffling. It was sent by Captain Soulstar of the USS Argonaut.

The wormhole had not only tossed our craft into to a remote galaxy, it had sent us back in time a few weeks. The vessel communicating with us was ourselves from our near future and the message explained that we were caught in a time-loop paradox. It transpired that the wormhole became stable when a vessel passed through from both directions at once. Our passage through the hole had enabled the first Argonaut to return, however, they detected a third Argonaut approaching from Astraios and surmised that this wormhole would spew out endless copies of the Argonaut until it eventually destabilised the local time-space continuum (with unknown and possibly catastrophic consequences).

My doppleganger, Captain Soulstar of the other vessel decided to break the loop by passing through the wormhole again to allow us to return, but this "unscheduled" passage would destabilise the wormhole so that the third Argonaut would perish. And so it was. The first Argonaut and her crew is now exploring a distant galaxy looking for a home… we, the second Argonaut watched the third explode in a blinding flash at the event horizon of the hole… we… watched ourselves die… and could do nothing. In the wake of these events i ordered that our original mission be terminated and that we return to Astraios. I have ordered counselling for my crew.

I paraphrase the great Man'yoshu poet of the Asuka period, Kakinomoto no Hitomaro:

Let none who come after me
Travel such paths…

Science Log 110619
Astro Balut

We barely succeeded escaping from the supernova which nearly sucked us into it. The course was now set for the wormhole which we had refound afther the episode with the supernova. While decoding the signals from the three probes that we sent into the wormhole we received a new signal coming from another probe originating from the other end of the wormhole. We found it to come from USS Argonaut - ourselves! The message from the probe told that we were facing a time-space paradox caused by our travel though the wormhole which in counter sent an identical ship in the opposite direction. Thus we were now in both ends of the wormhole. It was the fact that both vessels passed each other inside the wormhole that kept it stable and saved our lives. Furthermore a third copy was on its way though the wormhole, potentially causing a cascade effect of multiple USS Argonauts with unpredictable consequences. We had to stop this.

We realized with help from the probe message that there was no other way than destroying the third ship in the wormhole and destabilise the wormhole itself in the same operation. The datastream we received from the probe had a coding that made it possible for us to go back through the wormhole to our known part of the universe. With warp speed we set into the wormhole for the second time, this time to get back home.

Back in the Milky Way we received a signal - a hailing call reflected by the wormhole, offset in time due to the paradox effect. The third copy of the vessel was in there and needed to be sacrificed to save the rest of the galaxy. The wormhole destroyed it due to the unidirectional unbalance, thereby getting unstable and it finally became impassible. Mission successful - but with a tough loss. We headed home to Astraios to have a well deserved rest and clear our minds upon this nerve wrecking adventure.

Helm Log, 110620

Once again we find ourselves lost in the region of the wormhole, the three probes have told us that we are in the Arion Galaxy 92 lightyears from our home colony. The wormhole is stable and we must decide whether we are to travel it to home. Just at that moment we discovered a probe heading towards us. It carried a strange message, strange in that it had been sent by non other than our Captain who was still sitting on the bridge of the SS Argonaut with us. The message told us that we were trapped as were they in the other ship in a time loop and they had sent us a solution but could we do it? The solution meant that we would have to let another copy of us and our ship be destroyed in order that we might make it home ourselves. Captain Soulstar decided that it was our only course of action and after leaving a message behind at the end of the wormhole, we started to make our way through at warp 5. During the journey through Cadet Markus discovered that there was a 2% disturbance in the left engine, however engineering were able to repair this and although our journey through was very shaky and we wondered if we would ever see home again, we made it. The Captain turned the ship towards the wormhole in time to see it light up and we knew that they were gone. We received a hail from Astraios colony with which we were able to fix our position and set course for home at warp 5.

Away Mission (Final chapter) : stardate 110619
Name: Lt. Davido Herbit

The captain had ordered to send three probes to the wormhole to gather more data. I have done this and very soon more information came back to us. I transferred the data to the Science department and the captains console. We discovered that a copy of our ship was hailing us and that we were in a parallel time including a copy of our ship. If this continues we have multiple copies or ourselves and that shouldn’t be good for the time/space continuum. We had to go back through the same wormhole and allow the next Argonaut to perish to prevent an imbalance in the time continuum.
The helm took us safe and sound back through the wormhole and when going to a safe distance we watched ourselves get destroyed.
We are almost home and we set course to Astraios! It’s always terrible to be lost in space and now I can relate a bit more with Capt. Catherine Janeway on her journeys.

In an attempt to get home, we received a message from "another" USS Argonaut. It seems the Wormhole we came through makes copies of all that pass through. To avoid unendless copies of the Argonaut, and in an attempt to rescue known space, the other Argonaut proposes to enter simultanously as we try to get back to Astraios Sector. But at high costs, by entering the Wormhole again by the "second" Argonaut, they create a thirth one, who "needs" to get destroyed to finalise the ongoing copying of objects by the Wormhole, and to save history.

Thanks to the exceptional navigation skills of our Helm Woman, Genny7 Markus, we managed to return home, seeing the third Argonaut flying in the Wormhole and watching her demolition by the again instable Anomaly. Our captain ordered Security to set beacons out of the Wormhole, so no Starship will enter again that dreadful anomaly, which caused almost our death, and is responsible for destroying the 3rd USS Argonaut.

Still, there is a copy of us in the Arion Galaxy ... beyond any possibility to contact them ever again.
The whole crew of the saved Argonaut pinks a tear away for the brave crew of the second Argonaut who saved our lives.
