TDRP2218: "The Unusual Suspects" (220514)

The USS Taylorholic Durant is considered to be the Flagship of the UFS Fleet. We are honoured to have Admiral Mike Calhoun as our former CO and as a current crew member, as well as other luminaries. We are para-RPers and storytellers. Using live, in-the-moment chat, we listen, read, respond, and create a new story as a collective of writers jamming on a theme. We are given a context – a place to begin and then improvise together what happens next, and what happens after that… and where does that take us.
That sense of being in fellowship with other creative people who understand the overall context and environment while writing a story that is vibrant and alive creates a sense of enjoyment and togetherness. Our goal on Durant is to foster that sense of belonging, to embrace good RP etiquette, and to have tons of fun!

MISSION TDRP2218
==============

STARDATE:220514
CREW START TIME: 9:00am SLT

LOCATION TO MEET: Tramlu Transporter Room
RP STARTS: Tramlu Transporter Room

WHAT TO WEAR:
UFS Alternate Timeline Duty Uniform
Durant Chat Relay
Phasers

MISSION LEAD/GM:
Fleet Captain Evelyn Rieko

POST ORDER: Will be decided, and posted, by the Mission Leader just prior to mission start (and sometimes adjusted in the RP if necessary).

ARRIVING LATE? Ensure to enter the scene in a logical manner.
NEED TO LEAVE EARLY? Justify your exit.

SITREP: Everything has changed on the USS Durant, but the officers are unaware of the change. They believe this is their normal, everyday life. However, their lives have been changed, and they are now living in an alternate timeline.

The Durant is in a warzone, and on its way to Cronon to deliver two civilian passengers Jim Hode and Evelyn Rieko-Hode. A war is raging between the two planets Cronon and Tramlu. The Durant Command Officers and crew have been informed this mission is classified, so they do not know the details. Captain Hal Jordan has concluded that the two civilians are being delivered to Cronon to bring about peace somehow, maybe as arbitrators between the two planets. He doesn't know for sure, but believes that is a logical deduction.

Captain Jordan has agreed to meet with two of the Tramlu Captains on the Tramlu ship Raygon, and will bring a team of his officers and he also requested that Captain James Hode accompany them to meet the Tramlu. The Romulan Centurian S'Lina suggested that the Durant should have fired on and destroyed the Tramlu ships when they lowered they're defenses, but the XO Mr. Narek informed her that is not the Starfleet Way.

Someone has sent an unauthorized communication from the Durant to some ship, or someone. Who among the crew would do such a thing? There is a traitor onboard, someone with their own agenda secretly sending out a message. There is a mystery here. Suspicion falls on some of the bridge crew.

The Suspects are:
1) The Romulan Centurian S'Lina, because she has shown she is treacherous, by suggesting destroying ships that are standing down and wanting to speak at a diplomatic meeting with the Durant Captain and officers. Also, through comments she's made it's obvious she has sided with the Cronons.

2) Lt. Ginrai Yamabushi, because he is behaving so strangely and out of control at times. He could have sent some type of message out to someone and possibly not even be aware that he did it. His mental state and his physical state are deteriorating. Dr. Thera Zh'qoloq is trying to get him to sickbay so that she can run tests on him, but he has run away from the bridge. Lt. Sandra Lacrima has been ordered to find him and bring him to sickbay.

3) Cadet Grimalkin Hunsaker, because he doesn't know where he's been or what he's done before coming to the bridge. He hasn't shared this information with anyone on the bridge yet.
There is a mystery here that must be solved.

The two planets Cronon and Tramlu are in the Talaiporía system in the Vaquerro Sector.

RP NARRATIVE
===========

Issa Reelu waited for Starfleet Officers to arrive. She had sent them the coordinates to be transported over to her ship. She realized that Tramlu had the upper hand in this situation with three ships to the Starfleet's one, but she knew perfectly well that Tramlu could not afford to have the Federation as an enemy. Adafo had spoken to her of convincing the Federation that they were at heart a peaceful people. Forced to fight for their freedom. If the Federation was peaceful and fair-minded as their reputation reported then they could possibly side with Tramlu against Cronon, and that would end the war, with Tramlu victorious she was sure. She looked to Adafo. "Adafo, I have planned to interrogate the Starfleet Officers, but gently. If they are as we believe they are; lovers of peace, then we will show them around our ship, and give them food and give them a history lesson as to how we ended up in this war with the mighty Cronon. What do you think?"

Adafo Mylonis stood next to Issa, waiting for the Starfleet crew to arrive. "I hope these folks are as honorable as I have heard. Actually I haven't heard anything bad about them so far, except their accursed collaboration and friendship with the Cronons. I hope that isn't a problem for us. We can always blast them out of the ether if it is. I have my First Officer listening on the comms channel, and two clicks on my communicator will cause him to commence firing."

S'Lina looks around the away party, she draws her disruptor from its holster and goes through a quick check, noting its power cells are fully charged and ready. She awaits the Starfleet Captain's orders to proceed with their visit to the rebels' ship. She clenches her gloved fist and releases, she bites her teeth in anticipation. "I am ready, Captain Jordan."

James Hode stood in the transporter room, waiting. All sort of scenarios had gone through his mind when contemplating what might happen when they arrived in the Cronon system. This was not one of them.

Narek Siva'nek: I await my Captain's command to enter the Transporter to board the Tramlu Ship when they are ready for us. I feel some slight trepidation but I am confident this will go well enough if we are careful how we conduct ourselves. I notice the tension in the Centurion and I know the Captain is a little tense. I too am a bit nervous but won't show it outwardly. I worry about Ginrai's condition but I am confident the Doctor can handle it. I have asked to be informed if his condition becomes any worse. The Captain needs to keep his mind clear to discuss things with the Tramlu.

Thera Zh'qoloq wished she was going with the away team to visit the Tramlu vessel. How exciting and interesting! She would love to meet the Tramulans and learn about them first hand, seeing them and discussing this war with them, but she had more important things to do. Her patient is what she has to focus on. First and foremost. She looked at Ginrai, she was very worried about him. His temperature was extremely high, over 158.9, and he was still having those episodes where he was seeing things that are not here. Talking about officers wearing different branch uniforms, and trying to get out of sickbay. She had to have him restrained. while she read more about his symptoms and the possible diagnosis. She looked to him. "Ginrai, what are you seeing now?"

Ginrai Yamabushi lays on the bed motionless. Feeling the effects of the hypospray. His eyes focused on the air, as if in a daze. He looks up at the scratches of battle in the sickbay, his eyes blurry then phases to an almost polished sickbay. The nausea is still there, but not enough to cause bile to form in his mouth. He responds to the doctor as he says, "Everything... is... wrong...." he said all so calmly. "Just wrong...out of place..." he looks back at the ceiling, as a tear falls down his face.

Zania Turner looks at the CO and suggests, "Sir, with your permission I'd like to return to the Bridge. In spite of what Starfleet thinks of me, you may need a capable officer there while you and the rest of the crew are on the away mission."

Sandra Lacrima felt guilty for not taking the danger of the episode, Lieutenant Yamabushi was living through, seriously enough. Somehow she thought that Doctor Zh'qoloq and Lieutenant Commander Siva'nek had control of the situation. Engaged in her own matters, she noticed but failed to realize that Lieutenant Yamabushi was in a state of insanity as he left the bridge. Without further comments she affirmed the order and addressed the computer. "Computer, locate Lieutenant Yamabushi," then notified Security personnel in the area where Lieutenant Yamabushi was currently tracked. "Bridge to Security on Decks 6, 7 and 8, Lieutenant Yamabushi is in an unstable mental condition and shows erratic behavior. He needs to be apprehended and escorted to sickbay, stunned if necessary. Inform Dr. Zh'qoloq after arrival at sickbay. Lieutenant Yamabushi is currently located on Deck 7, Section 8-S and heading towards Engineering." *pause for confirmation from security officers of the addressed decks* "Computer, pass on continuous tracking of Lieutenant Yamabushi to Security personnel on Decks 6 through 8." Mentally making a check on the list, she continued "Computer, locate Captain Hode" - "Captain Hode is located on Deck 7 - 7 Forward" - "Ensign Lacrima to Crewman Mrago" - "Listening" - "Crewman Mrago, special task for you: please go to 7 Forward and inform Captain Hode that Captain Jordan needs to meet him in Transporter Room 2, he will receive further information upon arrival in Transporter Room 2, please escort him there" - "Affirmed, Sir, heading to 7 Forward" - "Thanks Crewman". She took a deep breath and addressed her CO. "Captain Jordan, Sir, all orders executed: Lieutenant Yamabushi will be caught and brought to sickbay with information of Dr. Zh'qoloq after doing so and Captain Hode will be escorted to Transporter Room 2 to meet you. Sir, you addressed the whole bridge for the Away Mission, but I guess that excludes me, right?"

Hal Jordan looked around the Transporter Room at his Away Team. "I couldn't ask for a better group of crew members than you. So here's how we will work it. We're all wearing weapons, but we're not going to hover our hands above them like a bunch of Wild West gunfighters. S'Lina, I want you especially to keep your hand away from your phaser. Unless the rest of us draw our phasers first, that thing stays in its holster. The only reason for anyone to be out of the holster is if the Tramlu Captains draw their weapons first. We are here for a nice friendly chat with them, and I won't have it turn into a bloodbath because someone had an itchy trigger finger. Understood? Great. Admiral Turner, thank you and please return to the Bridge. Ensign Lacrima, please remain on the Bridge, and thank you. Transporter Chief, energize." The Transporter Room faded out of his sight and was replaced by a fairly standard looking meeting room. "Hello, I am Captain Hal Jordan of Durant and this is my Bridge crew. Thank you for your courteous invitation."

Reelu looks at the Starfleet Officers one at a time. First the leader who is speaking, then each one in turn. Then she looks back to the Captain. "Greetings and welcome Federation Starfleet. We have heard many great things about you. How you have formed the Federation of Planets, and strive for peace and equality for all. We the people of Tramlu feel the same way. We are a peace loving people. Welcome Captain Hal Jordan and officers of the starship Durant. I am Captain Issa Reelu, we spoke over Comms. I am Captain of this ship, the Raygon." She moves her hand toward Adafo. "This is my colleague, Captain-Commandant Adafo Mylonis, commanding the battlecruiser Defiance. Please take a seat, sit and get comfortable. We have much to discuss!"

Mylonis watched as the Starfleet crew phased in together. Their transportation was very impressive. "Hello, I am Captain-Commandant of Battlecruiser Defiance, the warship that does not have weapons pointed at your ship right now. I see that your skin colors look very unhealthy and I wonder if it would be a good idea to have our medicos take a look at you."

S'Lina bites her tongue, deciding not to protest the Captain's orders, letting her hand drop absentmindedly onto her disruptor at her side before pulling her hand away. Shaking her head, thinking how different Starfleet can be from the Romulan Star Empire's ways. She hopes the rebels will draw their weapons first. As her vision clears following the transporter's effects, S'Lina stares directly at the pink skinned rebels, her lips turn a spiteful thin smile. Looking around she notices the propaganda posters on the wall and nods. She searches the room for possible threats, traps, then her eyes fall on the Tramlu's hands and waists. Noticing that they are indeed unarmed which makes them easy kills, she smiles slightly at that prospect, nodding to Adafo and Issa.

Hode: As the others filed into the Durant transporter room, Jim scanned their faces. The only one he recognized was that of Hal, his former Chief Intelligence Officer. He recalled that Hal was a cracking analyst but had no idea of how to correctly eat scones. Jam first, then clotted cream. He couldn't hold that against the man - not entirely. He was surprised to see a Romulan on the away team. He raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. Each of these officers, and this ship, were here in a war zone because of him and his mission. Whatever they did, they did without knowing the reasons for being here. Such loyalty and devotion to duty could not find fault with him. He nodded as he stepped onto the transporter pad, feeling out of place in his grey tunic. He took a deep breath. Evelyn was counting on him. And so was... everyone else. He heard Hal giving his instructions. He himself was unarmed, as should be. He was not here as a Starfleet Officer. He had no idea what the Tramulans would think of him being included. He noted Hal introducing the away team as his Bridge Crew. He would play along unless Hal indicated otherwise. He was wearing a kind of Intel grey. He doubted the Tramulans would know Starfleet colours, or uniforms, in any case. He looked at the party awaiting the team, and nodded his head, his eyes guarded... his palms damp.

Siva'nek: After the shimmer finished, I follow the others to our meeting destination to meet the Tramlu Captains. I follow behind my Captain quietly, taking in the surroundings, noting anything I deem important. As we enter and meet them, I feel S'Lina's somewhat negative energy for a moment. Hearing Captain Mylonis mention our complexions made my eyebrow arch for a moment. I note that theirs is very unusual and they have points to their ears too. I can sense Hode feeling a bit tense but I remain highly confident in his speaking skills. I just keep my eyes open and see what everyone is doing, but keeping a serene face as I wait. The Captain looks in control and ready too.

Jordan looked at the Tramlu Captains, their skin an interesting shade of pinkish-purple. He would not return the insult about skin color. "Greetings from Starship Durant, and I hope to make this a productive conversation. I don't see any reason why we would want to stand around when there are comfortable looking chairs here, so let's sit and talk like friends." He sat down and continued. "Durant was sent here to revisit the system and attempt to broker peace between your two warring sides. We also have a subsidiary mission not related to the peace talks. What would we have to do to convince you to begin negotiations with a representative of the Cronons?"

Reelu sits and watches the Starfleet Officers take their seats. She looks to the leader. "I see, so you are here as peacemakers. That is good to hear. What would it take to have us sit at a table and discuss peace with Cronon!? Argh! We are a peaceful people. We would sit and talk with them. It is Cronon that will not listen. Do you know Cronons? Have you met them yet? They hate us, under the guise of brotherly love. They say they want to continue to take care of us!! They say they care about us deeply! They love us like brothers! Would you make your brother your servant, your slave?" She looks around the table at everyone. "We don't need anyone to take care of us! They want us to remain beneath their thumb! To obey their every wish and command. That day is gone. We want freedom!!" She suddenly realized she was almost shouting, and lowered her voice. "It is freedom we want, if the Cronons can understand that and release us peacefully, surely we would sit with them to discuss this." She inhaled deeply and slowly exhaled trying to release her anger. Her eyes went to the one dressed differently than the others. That was no Starfleet uniform. She waved her hand toward the oddly dressed one, looking at Hal. "Who is this?" Then to the man, "Who are you? Someone special? You're dressed differently." She thinks, maybe he is an arbitrator. She will wait to hear the response.

Mylonis sat in a chair opposite the Starfleet Captain. He noted that their uniforms were all as spotless as his and Issa's. It was clear that they were military officers and not posers, very serious and straightforward. He looked closely at them, noting the variations in their skin colors. He listened to Issa's speech and nodded in approval. "I apologize for my comment earlier about your coloration. We have a saying on my planet, 'You are not your skin,' and I believe it. It's just that I have never seen life forms like you before. As for the peace talks, my personal preference would be for the presence of security personnel in case of treachery, and an experienced negotiator to keep the conversation moving. Cronons have treated us from Tramlu as second class citizens for too long. We must be seated as equals to them, and our words must carry the same weight as theirs. I hope you can understand our point of view."

S'Lina stands cautiously apart from the group. Her position gives her a vantage point against the Tramlus. S'Lina will just have to wait for the opportunity to present itself. She listens intently to their banter, and couldn't help but have some bit of respect for these rebels who would die for their freedom. Perhaps she could give them what they so brazenly ask for, death.

Hode looked to the Tramlu officers, as he saw their features and their skin he felt a wave of nostalgia come over him. It felt like it had been forever since he had seen that familiar look. He had expected to be nervous, but he had not expected to feel his stomach fall to the deck below and his throat tighten as he looked at their faces. They had been invited to sit by their hosts, he looked to Hal, whatever the Captain did he would follow. Hal sat, and the closest empty chair was one at the end of the table. He paused, uncertain of the protocol here, and was glad he had, for Captain Reelu sat in that chair. He moved down the table. He listened to Hal explain their mission, and mention a subsidiary mission. He went through what he had planned to say if questioned in his mind as he took an empty chair. Captain Reelu's voice rose as she talked about the Cronons. He felt himself wanting to respond... his cheek muscles worked, but he said nothing until she was done... her eyes turned to him and she questioned his presence. "I am here for peace," he said quietly. "An end to war, and an end to death." This much was true, and no one knew how much he was giving up to be here. His heart wrenched a little, with both hope and grief.

Siva'nek: After sitting in the plush chair and noticing the wall art, I listen to the Captains speak about their situation and desire for self determination. They speak of peace, but the propaganda art is rather intense about seeking freedom, with flaming skulls and such. I know they want it because death would be better than subjugation. I think about Vulcan history and the vicious bloody battles over domination of one group against another and our near self annihilation. I hope Mr. Hode can use his skills to ameliorate this tense situation. I keep my eye on the Romulan, as she seems edgy. My hands, folded, sit on the table to show I have no weapon in them and I wait quietly, thinking about Ginrai and the Doctor as well.

Zh'qoloq: Looks to Ginrai with compassion, but she is relieved that he is restrained on the biobed. "Ginrai, look at me. Try to stay focused. I am giving you a compound in the hypospray that is a sedative to calm you and a drug to lower your blood pressure and should make you feel better and lessen your nausea as well." She used the hypospray on him. "Ginrai, you said everything is wrong. What do you mean? People are on the ship that shouldn't be on the ship. Look at me... am I wrong? Is there something WRONG about me? You said people seem to split into two. You mumbled about seeing Mr. Narek in a Medical Officer's uniform and in his Command Uniform. That is not right. That is one of the things that is wrong? He should be wearing a medical uniform?" She shook her head, thinking back on what she had read about the El-Aurian illness called Af-Kelt. "Ginrai, what do you know about Af-Kelt? Tell me. It could be what is happening here. I want to run more tests on you also." She waited for his response.

Yamabushi looks up at the doctor, and replies, ".....something is wrong...Momma told me once...never doubt when you hear something wrong." He takes a deep breath, "You aren't supposed to be here." He taps his fingers, as he closes his eyes in a rhythmic tone. 'Trust everything you hear, boy...' he could hear in his mind in his mother's voice. "This timeline, everything is wrong." He taps in a rhythm, and mutters, "A love supreme.....a love supreme.....a love supreme...." he taps still and looks over as he stops sounding like a chant, as he continues tapping in a rhythmic tap and says, "This isn't my timeline....something is out of sync..." Taking another deep breath he says, "I can hear the universe... out of key like a musician out of tone, but it's making me sick, like nails on an old Earth parchment board." he keeps tapping. Yamabushi keeps tapping in a rhythmic tone against the bed. He looks over, and asks, "Doctor, I am afraid to say this," he keeps tapping as he looks over at her. "You are not a member of this crew from where I am from." The tapping continues, as his eyes shift from side to side. "My mother once told me, that her people, like me... partially can hear the tone of the universe.... every action, every word said somewhere, a supernova, played in a melody, the hum of a warp core, a slipstream drive, a transwarp corridor, everything in nature, what is said, and every action is like a melody that we can hear." Yamabushi looks up at the Doctor, "...when that harmony is out of tune, we too can hear it. And it's painful." His face begins to show sheer agony, ".....my mother called it 'The Sickness', she said that she never felt it before, personally, but when she lived back on the El-Aurian homeworld, she heard about someone who was traveling experience it." He looked back up at the sky, thinking about something from his childhood as he kept tapping against the medical bed in rhythmic fashion. "In 1965, she met a young man named .... Coltrane...." thinking to himself, he replied, "He played a song in a jazz club on Earth, that felt like she was listening to all of the universe, everything being poured into music for humans and others to hear..." Yamabushi keeps the tapping going and focuses on the beat, as he is almost in an intoxicated state: "Can you hear it, Doctor?" he asks as he continues tapping, he chants: "A love supreme.....a love supreme....a love supreme...."

Jordan looked at the Tramlu Captains, so serious and obviously competent. "Of course we understand your viewpoint. We would feel the same if we were in your position. My planet had a long history of oppression for many years, but we made peace with most of the various factions among us. It would be our honor to help you make peace with your oppressors. Starfleet has acted as an intermediary with many such conflicts and we are very familiar with protocols and security." He thought carefully about revealing the other part of their current situation and finally decided that it was necessary. "Durant's crew has been experiencing some strange behavior and feelings recently. One of my crew is under treatment right now after having hallucinations and physical ailments that seem to be abnormal. His race is sensitive to timeline changes, and its members react in this way to such happenings. I myself have had some disturbing dreams, suggesting that the current crew assignments on my ship are different from what they 'should' be. I wonder if you have experienced similar problems."

Reelu looked at the one dressed differently and said, "So you are here for peace and to end the war and death. So you will be at this MEETING between Cronons and Tramulans... if it ever takes place. I doubt the Cronons will come to the table, with their superior attitudes. They have been in control of our planet for so long they feel it is their right to own it and us. They are mistaken. We have shown them how formidable we can be!!" She bites her lower lip for a moment and shakes her head. "I regret that so many have died ...on both sides." She looked at the faces at the table and at the strange one still standing. "Captain Jordan, please have your officers introduce themselves. You all know who we are. Who are you? Each individually? I notice that you all are wearing weapons to this peaceful meeting. However, it's understandable, coming to a foreign ship, not really knowing what will happen. Please note that we also have armed Security Officers in the room and near the doors." She smiles. Reelu felt a warmth and calmness come over her for a few moments as Captain Jordan spoke of a history of oppression on his home world. He understood, and his people had overcome their problems. He wanted to help them, she could 'feel' it. She knew he was honest and true to what he was saying. She looked to Adafo and nodded, signaling to him that she was beginning to trust Starfleet. Then turning back to Hal, she said "Yes, Captain Jordan... you understand from your planet's history what it is like to be oppressed and that it is wrong. I believe you when you say you understand our viewpoint and you want to help. We will accept your help, but I doubt you can get Cronon to the table."

Mylonis's eyes widened in surprise as he heard Durant's Captain describe their current difficulties. "Yes! Two days ago, one of my Engineers had to be physically restrained and placed in our infirmary. He was running around in the Engineering spaces, screaming and crying, saying that the ship's configuration was 'wrong.' He started modifying some of our key systems to conform with his idea of how they should be, and almost caused an overload of the engines. Had we not taken him into custody, Battlecruiser Defiance would be an expanding gas cloud right now. I would be very interested to hear more about what you think might be the cause of these problems."

S'Lina eyes widen as she follows the ongoing conversation, her attention focuses on the mention of timeline changes by the Starfleet Captain, as being the cause of the Engineer's episode on the bridge. And again, the Tramlu's experience on the Defiance, sounding quite similar she thinks. A knowing smile breaks over her face, her right hand drops slowly to her side, to her holster.

Siva'nek: Leaning forward just a little toward Captain Reelu I state calmly,"I am First Officer Mr. Siva'nek. I am Vulcan and we too had devastating wars on my home world that nearly destroyed all of our peoples. We found in the teachings of one called Surak, a way to conduct ourselves in peace using logic." Sits back and has noticed S'Lina's body movements. I am ready to pounce if necessary and I do hope I do not have to. I am also hoping this peaceful meeting sinks into her somehow.
