USS T-Durant Mission TDRP1728: "End Program" (190707)

The USS Taylorholic Durant is considered to be the Flagship of the UFS Fleet. We are honoured to have Admiral Mike Calhoun as our former CO and as a current crew member, as well as other luminaries. We support UFSA as much as we can and we provide mentorship to the JOOP & CGSD graduate programs.
We roleplay in-world on a drop-in and scheduled basis. We also add to our history and environment by writing RP Narratives, Mission Logs & Personal Stories for the UFS forum.
Inspired by the ship's namesake, the late Admiral Taylorholic Durant, crew members work to exemplify the behaviour, actions & vision of United Federation Starfleet in everything they do. Our first rule: to be kind to one another. And have fun.
Please note we practice Post Order (P.O.) and One Post in our Roleplays. For further info, contact the C.O.!

POST ORDER: Will be decided, and posted, by the Mission Leader just prior to mission start (and sometimes adjusted in the RP if necessary).
MISSION TIME: Please be ready & prepared & in place for RP to start at 1130 SLT

IC PREMISE: While on a routine patrol of Sector 010, approximately 62 light years from Pinastri, the ship is running well. Plenty of time for necessary repairs, training, and battle drills. But also time for recreational activities. During a battle simulation, Operations was ordered to shut down holodeck number one and transfer power to shields. The holodeck did not respond. Internal sensors show one life sign, identified as a member of the crew, still in the holodeck and not responding to combadge hails...

RP NARRATIVE
============

Evelyn Rieko looks around the bridge, she has been given the conn while Captain Hode relaxes...and does whatever it is he does. She looks around the bridge, and says we are on a routine patrol of Sector 010. Department reports everyone.

Hawke Phoenix: “Tactical reporting all systems are go, sir. I'd like to run some Battle Simulations if that's ok.”

Russell Sprout's fingers do a dance over the console as he reads the various bits of information that are transmitted to him from copious departments all over the ship. He notes there is some jam on the communications area, he has no doubt Commander Hal Jordan was last at this post. "Operations reports green, Sir, all power allocations as ordered, communications array functioning, although letters from home may take longer to arrive as we have passed the outskirts of the Nekrit Expanse and they have to be transmitted through Excelsior."

Leninah tentatively approaches her station after a period in sickbay and reports “Permission to return to duty Sir, doc says I’m fine now, a little dose of delta radiation poisoning that was all, it’s all good now, great med team we have” smiles and does her best to convey wellbeing and sparkiness, as she hovers on her toes leaning in the general direction of the science station like a tree ready to fall that way. Hey eyes betraying her keenness to check the systems and respond to the call for status report ASAP!

Jorden Allen looks over the ship's status, all systems reporting back nominally, with minor efficiency upgrades undergoing on several minor systems during the off-time. He reports back 'The ship is operating nominally, Commander'

Rieko nods as she gets each report, all is well.. “Good work, everyone. I'm ordering a battle simulation for training...we must always be ready for any unexpected issues. Tactical -Cadet Phoenix begin battle simulation.” Nods to Leni.. “yes permission granted.”

Phoenix nods, "aye sir. Running Battle Simulation Delta Sierra 4 versus a Borg Battle Cube." Looks over all displays and smiles at the resulting readouts.

Sprout glances to B'Troli, "Good piloting, there, B," he said in an undertone. He could see the asteroids on the main viewer, nothing the Durant's shields couldn't handle, but she was a skillful helm officer and he'd noted her ability to anticipate issues and make minute adjustments in course in order to avoid collisions with spatial objects, large and small. He waited to hear what Tactical had in mind. Then: "Detecting tachyon pulses of alternating frequencies 100,000 kilometers to starboard, Sir."

Leni Acknowledges the CO’s nodded permission to resume duty “Thank You Sir” and quickly takes her station and plays the console like a pianist. In almost no time at all looking up and responding, if a little belatedly, to the request for status as brightly and sharply as she can “Sir, science status report, all scanners and sensors, computers, programmes and diagnostics running ‘A OK’ no indications of issues anywhere and scans of sector 010H and surrounding long range scans updating regularly with no anomalies of concern detected as yet Sir” With that dealt with sits back and turns her attention to catching up on anything she missed during her enforced absence and preparing to engage in the battle simulation.

Allen monitors as the battle simulation begins, and several ships systems are handed over to the computer to simulate the scenario. He organises a team in main engineering to monitor the ships actual systems while the simulation progresses, and ensures a good uplink to the bridge in case of emergencies.

Phoenix adjusts phaser batteries for alternating phase frequencies between tachyon bursts, "all photon topedo tubes are loaded and prepared to fire. Adjusting our phasers for proper modulation. Simulation is running smoothly Commander." Watches over the panel and makes slight adjustments

Rieko looks over at Leni as she takes her Science station and listens to her report, then says " Lieutenant, it's good to have you back!” Looks to Sprout and B'Troll, “avoid the asteroids, evasive maneuvers! Science what is causing the Tachyon particles?”

B'Troli: "Evasive maneuvers, aye."

Sprout: "Now reading a subspace rift of some kind in the same area as the tachyon pulses..." turns to look at Evelyn, "Could possibly be a transwarp conduit?" Looks back at his console.

Leni, hearing the Commander’s request: “Sir, checking tachyon particle source now, should know in a few moments” Completes her analysis of the simulation feed data and reports: “Sir, tachyon particles are coming from a fissure in space time. In the area Ops indicated. The levels indicate a cube or vessel coming through. Caution advised.”

Allen watches as several IDF generators fluctuate beyond specification during the maneuvers, and assigns a team to look into that, whilst listening to the scientists debate, scrambling the damage response teams in preparation for the possible encounter.

Rieko listens to the reports and says, "Red Alert! Shields up. Tactical, How close is that borg cube? and scan the area for any other vessels."

Phoenix checks his readings,"Cube shows to be 80,000km and closing. Sir, scanning for additional ships. Looks like this the only one for now, but that anomaly could easily bring more. Suggest we jam transmissions"

Sprout: "Ah, well... confirmed, a Borg cube has appeared now in the transwarp conduit. They are hailing us. The usual stuff about adding our uniqueness to their own, yadda, yadda." He tried to make his voice sound a little anxious. Just to play the role well. "Good idea re the transmissions."

Leni settles a little more relaxed into the science station and drags up the mission logs to catch up on whatever she missed while in sick bay. Nodding as she read the reports and feeling proud to be part of the team that rose to and handled such matters as one each pulling for each other. Winces as she reads over her last actions before passing out and pops a green pill which the doctor had told her to take one every couple of hours for a few days just to be safe. Her expression made it clear what she thought of green as a colour for medicine but wrote that off as someone using the medical replicators as having a sense of humour, however twisted. The fact green was appearing again on the viewscreen was cause for some concern, but she patched through the simulations on their own channel and kept an eye on the live reports too.

Allen brings the warp core up to red alert power levels, and starts spinning up the weapon and shield systems

Rieko looks to Sprout and smiles, "I kinda like hearing the Borg speech...it has become so predictable now...almost a cliche." Looks to Cadet Phoenix, "Jam transmissions? Yes a great idea.. one Borg cube to battle with is enough.. Jam their transmissions Commander Sprout. Engineering we may need extra power for the shields.. they may attempt to lock us in a tractor beam.”

Phoenix: "Confirmed Commander! Borg cube is powering up their Tractor Beam. I'm targeting the source with phasers on your command." Adjusts the modulation on the phasers to accuracy and poises for orders to fire.

Sprout frowned at the viewscreen. If they were going to do simulations, it might be an idea to have a better image for a Borg cube. To him it looked more like a Borg rectangle. He made a note to talk to the ship's librarian and have a look at what was available in LCARS. "Aye Sir, attempting to jam their transmissions. Flooding the airwaves with 'We are the Champions," a recording of a rock song from Earth, circa 1977 if I recall."

Leni checks the simulation long range sensors “Sir no indications of any other vessels, and tachyon levels dropping, looks like we have just the one to deal with, though one of those things is enough”

Allen nods, 'Understood Commander, looking into that extra power.'

<< The Helm Officer cleverly veers the ship quickly to port to simulate the Borg attempting to lock tractor beam... and the ship shakes >>

Rieko stumbles as the ship shakes, but regains her balance, and shouts, "Ops, shut down holodecks and transfer power to the shields! Tactical can we break away? Prepare to fire at the cube. Science scan the cube and report.”

Phoenix: "Their attempt to lock a tractor beam is effecting shields, down 10 percent, but we can break free with full power. Firing phasers to break the link." Pew, pew, pew. "Tractor Beam disabled sir. Targeting their communications links now."

Sprout feels the tremor of the ship and raises his voice slightly. "Acknowledged Sir. Shutting down unnecessary systems." He configures the computer to shut down personal replicators and holodecks until further notice. It should be no surprise to anyone. In a red alert, no one should be in a holodeck. Everyone was supposed to be at battle stations. If they weren't on duty, they'd have to eat in the mess or sleep. If they could with all the alarms and ship shaking. He grinned and winked at B'Troli. Although the crew sometimes grumbled at having to run drills, it could also be fun. "I don't think they like rock and roll," he reported, "They've stopped transmitting their 'you will be assimilated' message."

Leni engages in the simulations, taking the appropriate actions where called for, but her mind wanders a bit as she considers how these simulations, whilst necessary, rarely prepare you for what you really encounter. The chances of coming across something you nor anyone else have never met before seemed much more probable to her than a Borg rectangle/cube/sphere/decahedron. However, battle was battle and whilst a rare occurrence it did need to be prepared for. Besides, an order was an order. “Sir scans of the cube show its fully populated maximum complement of drones” pauses and leans forward narrowing her eyes “and, I’m afraid Sir” pauses again for maximum dramatic effect, “They Sir are…” decides that’s enough dramatic effect, “All green Sir!”

Allen observes that all damage teams report in ready, and relays that to the conn, observing that operations is handling the power reallocation request from a distribution point of view, he controls the output of the reactor.

Rieko looks to Sprout, smiling, "Good choice of music!" Then looks to Leni wondering what hazard she has found as she leans forward with theatrical worry on her face, only to end with, 'All green, Sir." She grins at Leni, unable to hold it back. "Very good Lieutenant Leni" ..and thinking if there was an award for acting Leni would win it. She nods, it is good to react in the simulation training as if it is real. She leans down and checks her console for real life activity for a few moments.. ..and sees something… “Ops it seems there is a holodeck still operating intermittently... a glitch maybe..some type of malfunction? Ops… Engineering, take a look at it. and report.”

Phoenix: "Looks like the Borg are powering up their main engines and making a break into the distortion, sir," wipes the sweat from his brow and smiles at Leni.

Sprout chuckles at Leni's 'all green'.. then he frowns at his console. Although it was a battle drill, they were at red alert and that meant the crew needed to respond as they would respond should this be a real battle situation. But apparently a member of the crew was ignoring the order to turn off the holodeck. Must be someone with some rank to have the ability to override the signal to power down. He sent the order again... "Confirming Sir, all personal replicators are now offline as are Holodecks two, three, and four. However, Holodeck one is not responding to the request to shut down. I am attempting to override."

Leni stifles a giggle relieved the Commander maintained her sense of humour. Mumbles to herself just audible above the background noise “What is it with green all of a sudden? If we had a green alert, I’m pretty sure we’d be on that today too!” Continues scanning and checking for changes on the simulation feed, and also reviewing scans on the live channel. Hearing reports of a person on a holodeck and wonders how and why someone would do that NOW ?”

Allen double checks the MSD, and observes that Holodeck One is indeed still running a program, and immediately hands off control of the engineering station to PO Coil, heading directly to the turbolift to go and check it out, should the Operations officer fail to override.
