RP NARRATIVE
=============

Svalr Stiarna steps up out of her seat to have a look at Helm, looking over Ginrai's shoulder, "Status report, Mr Yamabushi." She glances to Science, "How's the charting going, are we almost finished this area of the grid?"

Ginrai Yamabushi monitors the course, looking at the direction, "Course is clear, Captain, maintaining Warp 2."

David Bebb: "Scans are almost done with the region of the grid Captain i am picking up some gases in the nebula that might interfere with our sensors a tad bit."

Brittany Tairov: "Nothing to report Captain."

Luv Yuki: "Tactical reports clear except for a civilian transport heading for Starbase 102, Sir."

Kyle Rayner looks over the Engineering board, scanning completely side to side and top to bottom. Everything looks fine, fusion reactors all running cool and supplying power in case the warp core goes offline. At warp two, there was not much chance of that since there was hardly any load on the warp core. He checked the deuterium tank readout, wondering for the umpteenth time why they needed to carry ten thousand liters of it on board. It did make good reactor shielding to keep neutrons from irradiating the crew, but the same effect could be achieved with water. It might be worth reviewing the design specifications again just to get his curiosity satisfied. He turned to look at the Captain. "Engineering systems running at full peak efficiency as usual, Captain. No anomalous readings, and all indications are within normal parameters."

Nova Yuki looks at her reports and turns to face the Captain. "Medical reports that we are in the green and ready for anything sir."

Stiarna nods as though all of those with their backs to her can see her acknowledgment. They might hear it though, as little bells on her earrings tinkle softly when she moves. "I think we'll be moving away from the nebula when we enter the next grid for charting." She sighed a little. Although she had a terribly curious mind charting in and of itself wasn't as exciting as say, visiting a new world. But it had to be done. She was just about to open her mouth to order the next change in course, which Ginrai probably already had ready to go, when there was a beep behind her. Comms? They weren't due for a check-in.

Yamabushi looks over and looks at his course plotting. Checking the calculations and the data to make sure that he is not hitting a star, or something. He scratched his chin and compared his course with the star map. He sighed deeply, thinking about the humdrum of the travel, but feeling the joy of controlling a starships navigation system.

Bebb: "The nebula is finished scanning and it's all clear."

Tairov: "Captain, incoming signal from Starfleet Command, Starfleet Command this is the Janeway go ahead with your message I say again, go ahead with your message."

**ENCRYPTED ORDERS BEGIN**USS JANEWAY**DESTINATION SECTOR PURPOSE ESCORT CONVOY SITUATION VOLATLE**REPEAT**SITUATION VOLATILE**ROE SUSPENDED**ENCRYPTED ORDERS END**

Luv Yuki: "What could be *that* classified, Sir?"

Rayner relaxes into his comfortable chair. The bridge seating was maybe a bit TOO comfortable for his taste. When things got slow and Engineering was running without problems, as it always did, his back got warm and his eyelids began to droop toward the closed position. Some of the positions had ventilation airflow blowing on the occupant which at least made things a bit uncomfortable to keep you awake. He heard the familiar beep tone of an incoming communication and was glad for the diversion. But the message itself was very curious, apparently nothing as simple as a distress signal or a diplomatic inquiry. There was only one thing that could have caused such a seriously encrypted signal to be sent, and no matter how hard he tried he was darned if he could remember what it was.

Nova Yuki hears about the message and begins to wonder if the med bay was ready for what will possibly come. "Any idea what this is about, Captain?"

Stiarna raises her two almost invisible eyebrows to the skies when she heard the message. She nodded sharply and sat down. "Computer, decrypt message from Starfleet Command, authorization Stiarna one, two, gamma, eight, nine, alpha." The computer beeped.

<< "Message from Starfleet Headquarters. USS Janeway ordered to Sector001M. Administrator T'priki from the Vulcan High Command is personally coming to speak to the Council of Admirals on a matter of great urgency. She's hidden in a convoy which appears to be carrying medical and technical supplies for the Federation base in the Delta Quadrant. There have been threats against her life in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Janeway to act as escort. Proceed at all possible speed." >>

Stiarna felt her jaw drop practically to the ground. After a minute she gathered her thoughts. "Sector 001M is bang in the middle of the Nekrit Expanse. That's going to cause a HUGE problem with navigation and sensors. Mr Yuki, take us to Yellow Alert. Science, we're going to need sensors to find the convey. OPs, acknowledge receipt of the message, encrypt your reply and just say 'message received and understood. Departing at once.' Engineering, we're going to need slip stream drive to pop over thirty or forty light years. Mr Yamabushi, plot a course to bring us out of QSD 50,000 kilometers south of the Expanse border." She turns, "Dr Moon, I'll need your assessment of the possible affects of travel in the expanse on humans, Vulcans, and other humanoids."

Security panel: Yellow alert

Yamabushi felt his El-Aurian side peek up as he heard the orders, and the message. "Aye, Sir" he responded, as he plotted the course, "Bearing 230-mark-40." he began to set the course heading into the navigation, and making sure that the speed setting goes to 50,000 kilometers as ordered.

Bebb: "Captain, with permission i would like to pull energy from all non essential decks to try and boost the power of our sensors."

Tairov: "Scanning for possible transmission Captain I will let you know once we have something. No, nothing else Captain."

Nova Yuki hears her Captain's orders and starts to look up everything about all humanoid crew members. "Bringing up the dossiers of the affected members, Captain"

Luv Yuki: "Intel reports signs of approaching meteor shower ahead."

Rayner cudgels his brain trying to think of situations where signal encryption was necessary. It was normally used during battle to prevent enemy ships from intercepting messages. During peacetime, he could not remember ever seeing such encryption. Of course one of the times that regulations allowed for encryption was "At the discretion of Starfleet Command," and apparently this was one of those times. A Vulcan High Command member traveling incognito in a convoy of freighters, and now needing protection. This should be good! "Captain, Engineering is ready to initiate Quantum Slipstream Drive at the command of the Helm. All systems ready."

Stiarna nods to all: "Engage course. Mr Tairov, did you send the acknowledgment. Mr Yuki, yellow alert please... not too worried about asteroids here unless they will impact our course. Watch for that, Mr Yamabushi. Mr Tairov, work with Mr Bebb to ensure extra power to sensor array. Perhaps we should also consider a probe?" She adds: "Good Mr Rayner, keep me informed of our engine status at all times."

Yamabushi looks at the coordinates with a sense of curiousness, but not too much. He looks at the throttle paneling near his fingers which now display a light for the Quantum Slipstream Drive and nods, "Aye, Sir." Pushes the panel forward, as the SlipStream Drive engages.. "Slipstream engaging, Now."

Bebb: "A normal probe should do but I would need permission from Ops to see what decks I can pull power from so i can boost the sensor array without taking to much juice from the rest of the ship."

Tairov; "Starfleet Command, we acknowledge your transmission." She presses the keys, sending power to the sensor arrays. "Aye, Captain, sending power to the sensor arrays."

Luv Yuki raises shields to maximum as she sits back looking at the grid. She looks to the captain, "What kind of threats were made to the Ambassador, Captain? By whom?"

Rayner sneaks a look at the viewscreen, as always, to watch the visual display as the Janeway leaps into the slipstream tunnel. He knew the physics of what was happening, but it was still fascinating to see what it looked like. He turned back to the Engineering board and instantly spots a problem. "Captain, slipstream phase variance is passing point zero three now and increasing. If it passes point zero eight we will need to do an emergency exit from slipstream to avoid severe damage. I will coordinate with the Helm for course corrections if there are any spikes in the variance."

Nova Yuki looks over the information of all humanoid crew members and the possible reactions. "Captain, traveling through the gases in the expanses are thick and the radiation levels will increase. Our shields should suffice in protecting the crew but I would advise on possible treatments should any of the crew feel more sensitive to the sudden changes in the environment."

Stiarna frowns, "Yes please do Mr Rayner. Hopefully we'll get there in one piece." She nods to the doctor, "Prepare your treatments and I suggest also getting a report together on those treatments to transmit to the other vessels." Reads over the orders again. "That's a very good question, Mr Yuki." She muses aloud: "A Vulcan Ambassador coming to speak to the Council of Admirals at Pinastri... Romulans?" She shakes her head, "There are two freighters and a civilian transport in the convoy. I am passing their transponder signals to you, Mr Yuki, prepare to scan for those once we drop out of QSD. Mr Yamabushi, time to QSD drop out point." She pauses for a moment, "On the topic of probes, Mr Tairov and Mr Bebb... perhaps a multispatial?"

Yamabushi listens deeply to the conversation, more importantly to Commander Rayner's communication with the Captain. As heard the communication he replied, "One minute Captain."

Bebb: "That power should be ample to find the Vulcan high command's ship. Thank you for the extra power, that helped a lot."

Tairov presses buttons at her console listening for anything out of the ordinary. "Gonna take some time to get the info you wanted Captain."

Luv Yuki: "Approaching normal speed, scanning for transponder frequency signals now Captain though it will be difficult in this soup."

Rayner issues a few curses under his breath as he watches the phase variance wobbling. This is exactly what they didn't need - a highly classified mission with their presence needed right away, and facing possible delays due to trying to force their way through the Nekrit Expanse. Through skill, experience, and coordination with his Engineering teams he had not needed to give the Helm any course corrections...yet. It was good to hear that they only needed slipstream for one more minute. "Phase variance is trending downward, back to normal, Captain. Point zero zero five now."

Nova Yuki nods and looks at the inventory for the treatments. "I will send the possible affected personal messages to report to med bay should they feel any slight discomfort to be treated

Stiarna: "Drop us from QSD Mr Yamabushi, bring us to full impulse. Science and Operations, how long until the probe is ready. As soon as you have it programmed and a frequency for telemetry set, have it placed in a torpedo tube for firing. Report when ready." She turned to Luv: "We don't have any particular heading for the convoy, but I suggest we target the centre of Sector001M and hope we get some readings. Set that trajectory, as soon as the probe is ready we will fire. Engineering, whatever you can do to assist navigational sensors, please do it." She turns back, "Take us in once the probe is fired, might as well follow that trajectory."

Yamabushi pulls back on the slipstream controls on the panels. The look on his face a little easier, as he sees the QSD pull back. His head swivels over as he taps on the controls for impulse power, as replies, "Full Impulse power, sir."

Bebb looks at his controls "The probe will be ready in a few minutes, Captain."

Tairov: "Good choice, Captain, we will have it programmed and ready to fire in a couple minutes here." She works on the keyboard typing in the functions the looks to the captain, "Ready Sir."

Luv Yuki: "Probe is ready for launch at your signal Captain."

Rayner watches the panel as the ship exits slipstream and returns to normal space. QSD was a great boon to Starfleet because it allowed such fast travel, but it was also highly dangerous for the same reason. Abnormal exits from slipstream had caused more than one ship to come to grief. Hearing the Captain's order to assist the operation of the navigational sensors, he considers something he has thought of in the past. Knowing that the ship would be following the probe, he uses the full output from the port fusion reactor to generate a deflector shield out ahead of the ship, pushing the dust and gas away from their course and providing a clean empty volume of space to increase sensor range. "I have a little something going here that should increase our forward sensor range, Captain."

Nova Yuki looks over and notices a key detail that brings concern to her. "Captain. Administrator T'Priki is 182. I'm worried how this trip will affect her given her age as well as the side effects of the nebula given the length of the trip."

Stiarna nodded to Kyle, "Whatever you can do." She turned to Nova: "I agree Doctor. Whatever shuttle or transport they have her on, will not have the facilities of a starship. I don't think we can use transporters in the anomaly. But perhaps we might be able to monitor her life signs and give medical support through comms." She added: "Mr Yuki, fire the probe. Mr Tairov, confirm telemetry is being received."

Helm controls: Now arriving at: Edge of Badlands

Yamabushi thinks about the age of the Administrator, and begins to think about his own age, though right now he's in his late 30's, he also knows that the El-Aurian side of him would cause him to be older. His mother was child rearing at five-hundred, from what he was told. He monitors the course, making sure we aren't hitting any asteroids. And watches the path for any incoming "disruptions."

Bebb: "Captain the Expanse is 35,000 kilometers ahead"

Tairov: "Shutting down all unnecessary systems, Captain, pulling the power for Navigations and shields." I work quietly at the console as I report that the telemetry of the probe is being received.

Luv Yuki presses the button for launch at her station sending the probe into action. "Probe is on course, Captain and will enter the Expanse in one minute 10 seconds."

Rayner considers other ways of increasing sensor range, and suddenly has a wacky idea. Or maybe not so wacky. "Captain, the dust and gas in the Nekrit Expanse are obscuring our sensors, as always. I am wondering now if we could send a sound pulse through the particles out there and see if it reflects back from any solid objects. It would be similar to the sonar pulses used to find submarines back on Old Earth. And I would bet that other ships out here would not have any audio sensors enabled to hear our pulse."

Nova Yuki nods to her captain, "I agree, once we reach the ship the administrator is on I will monitor her vitals."
