SITREP:
We are at the colony on the Planet Macreen in the Midgar Sector. The colonists are luddites, they all dislike technology, but it seems in different degrees. We were unavoidably late getting here which resulted in many of the colonists dying from an outbreak of a disease which is a deadly mutated form of Andronesian Encephalitis.
We told the colony leaders and everyone there that we deeply regret the deaths of those colonists that had succumbed to the deadly disease.
Betazoid crew members Admiral Zania Turner and Admiral Cheryl Skinstad are sensing strong emotions of hostility toward us and a wish to harm us. We have our Security Chief Lt. Sandra Lacrima and Security Officers there making sure we are safe.
Our doctors have concluded that the mutated Andronesian Encephalitis originated in one of the skitters. They are working together doing more research to find a vaccine, treatment and cure for the disease.
There has been dissension among the colonists, with the colony leaders disagreeing about the need for technology, and there is dissension among the Durant crew, with Ensign Mac Gaelyth stating he could not follow my orders and repair the Comms system citing the Prime Directive as his reason. I relieved him of duty working on the Comms System with our Chief Engineer and ordered him to report to our Security Chief to help out with Security. However, when I returned to the Technology room, my XO Fleet Captain Hal Jordan informed me Ensign Gaelyth had disobeyed my order stating that he did not feel it was appropriate for him to assist the Security Officers since he is not a Secuity Officer. He also stated he requested that he be sent back to the ship and that he would submit for a transfer from the ship. He stated this would be a violation of the Prime Directive if we repaired the Comms system because this was an internal disagreement between two groups on the planet.
Our Intel Officer Tai'Ra Lutytr agreed with Ensign Gaelyth about the Prime Directive being violated and stated she could not proceed with our orders also. Then Captain Jordan told me that our Chief Engineer had also agreed with the two stating this was a violation of the Prime Directive, and stated he would not repair the Colony's Comms system. Captain Jordan advised me he had explained to the three officers why we were not violating the Prime Directive. Ensign Gaelyth stiil felt the same so Hal had him sent back to the ship and confined him to his quarters. The Ensign Lutytr has her objection noted, and Lt. Cmdr Ginrai Yamabushi decided to comply wiyj our orders after Captain Jordan explained to the three of them why we are not violating the Prime Directive.
I can understand why the three of them found it necessary to voice their opinions about repairing the Comms system. However, I would expect members of my crew to have a conversation with me or the XO before taking a hard stand against my orders. The two Ensigns are relatively new, but Chief Yamabushi has been with us for years and I must say I am surprised at how quickly and easily he disobeyed my orders and stood against me without speaking with me about his concerns.
We will continue with our assignment. I will speak with each one of the Officers individually after we have completed our work here.
