Mission #251: The Case of the Missing Case, Part I

USS Maxwell, NCC-21873, is a Nova-class science and survey vessel based out of Pinastri Colony on the Second Life Grid. We are currently a mission of exploration in the Hapke Cluster, an open star cluster of some 10,000 star systems. We are open to new crew! Please inquire with Captain Nora Gerhadsen or with Commander April Coswell. We are particularly interested in Science, Engineering and Operations officers.

Roleplay Times: Thursdays 6pm to 8pm SLT
Commanding Officer: Nora Gerhadsen
Executive Officer: April Coswell

Mission Name: The Case of the Missing Case, Part I

Story Concept: Nora Gerhadsen

The following information is IN CHARACTER information.

Location: Tiratus Station, Tiratus System, Sylleran Sector Block

Alert Status: green

Enroute to delivering our Ambassador to her new posting on Suban in the Hapke Cluster, USS Maxwell has diverted to the Tiratus System in order to have a fancy electronic library fabricated. The computer parts are being fabricated on board; however, for the cabinet, or case, we have elected to use an artist on Tiratus Station. The case must be quite fancy to satisfy Subere sensibilities. Apparently it is a custom among the socially highly rigid Subere that when a new Ambassador takes office, gifts are exchanged between the Subere and their Ambassador's society. We must produce something that is both valuable, but additionally highly significant in the Federation's culture. We have opted for a database of information about the Federation: not just specifics of planets, but also art, history, music, literature, and so on. This will serve the dual purpose of being highly significant to the Federation (we all cherish knowledge), as well as educating the Subere about the Federation.

At this point, Maxwell is hard-docked to the Tiratus Station, awaiting completion of the case. Since the gift has to be highly valuable, we have used the vast majority of the ship's supply of gold-pressed latinum, which has been handed over to Dende, the artist on the station we have contracted to build the cabinet.

OOC Notes:

- This notecard was done after the fact. We also had a cadet on board who provided Medical check-ups for a number of crew.

- This is a bit of an interlude before we get back to the Hapke Cluster. If you are good at building, please talk to me! I've got a job... Uh... Better make that Jobs... For you!

* These duties are very general ideas, feel free to add to them and fill things in.

--> We are a science and survey ship. That means we find weird stuff sometimes. Create! Let's see what we all can come up with!

* Please allow people to do their jobs and be thoughtful of the fact that people join departments and divisions to do their jobs. Try not to step on their functions. If you have something to help someone (advise that they may or may not follow) instead of saying something publically, it might be more useful to IM them and discuss it with them.

* Departments should be working together. There should be enough possibilities for everyone as long as they all work together and cooperatively. Do not be afraid to do OOC planning in IM.

* This is more or less freeform, but please don't have it as "Q did this". We need to get ourselves out of our own jams (not that this has ever been a problem with this crew).

Remember that the point of all this is to have fun! Good luck and have at!

Command Log:

Stardate: 200316

Location: Tiratus Station, the Tiratus System

Alert Status: green

USS Maxwell is at Tiratus Station in the Tiratus System having a fancy cabinet fabricated out of most of our store of gold-pressed latinum. The object of the exercise is to be able to present the Subere a gift worthy of the installation of the first Federation Ambassador on Suban. This is a Subere cultural quirk of which the Federation was unaware when they made the decision to send Ambassador Coswell straight out to the Maxwell, rather than allow us to retrieve her at Pinastri. The ship is at Tiratus Station because there is a craftsman of sufficient skill who can fabricate what we need. Under Subere cultural norms, the gift must be not only valuable, but of significance to the gifting polity. In our case, we are building an extensive database of Federation culture, history, language, and so on, including astrometric charts. In this way, the gift will not only fulfill its Subere requirements, but also act to educate the Subere about the Federation.

Unfortunately, USS Maxwell got a hail from the Station Administrator, Juvek, explaining that the latinum -- and artist, Dreven -- were missing, and had likely been missing for the last 24-48 hours. He's not entirely sure when it happened. However, no warp-capable ships have left the system, or entered, in the last 48 hours. Several ships left the station -- most were mining vessels bound for the asteroid belt, but one was bound for Tiratus IV, a Class M planet inside the asteroid belt. If the latinum and artist aren't on the station, it seems most likely that they went, or were taken, there. Lt. Commander Naiver and Mr. Auranum went on board Tiratus Station to track down the movements of the latinum. They got as far as a docking pylon. It would seem that the latinum has left the station, and is likely on Tiratus IV. We will be heading there next. However, since this place is somewhat lawless, ('modern-day Deadwood' is how a Science Officer described it), we will likely need to go incognito.

During this time, several crew got medical check-ups from a Cadet, Rowan Roundel, as part of his Cadet training requirements. Mister Roundel is to be complimented on his professionalism and thoroughness. He is a credit to the Academy.
