Mission #209: A Better Mouse Trap

USS Maxwell, NCC-21873, is a Nova-class science and survey vessel based out of Pinastri Colony on the Second Life Grid. We are currently a mission of exploration in the Hapke Cluster, an open star cluster of some 10,000 star systems. We are open to new crew! Please inquire with Captain Nora Gerhadsen or with Commander April Coswell. We are particularly interested in Science, Engineering and Operations officers.

Roleplay Times: Thursdays 6pm to 8pm SLT
Commanding Officer: Nora Gerhadsen
Executive Officer: April Coswell

Mission Name: A Better Mouse Trap

Story Concept: April Coswell and Jayce Rebel

The following information is IN CHARACTER information.

Location: Docked near Ullipallilli III station

Alert Status: green

=============================================

While we were questioning Ullipallilli Station commander Derlek and two mice-oid characters named JJ and Geelaine, the Maxwell's singularity core was stolen. We are detaining the commander for questioning while we attempt to locate our missing core. It should be noted that as the core went missing, one of our guests from the station, a Uhtu, went into a trancelike state.

In Service,
Captain April Coswell, Executive Officer, USS Maxwell

OOC Notes:

- This mission card was written after the fact. Much fun was had!

* These duties are very general ideas, feel free to add to them and fill things in.

--> We are a science and survey ship. That means we find weird stuff sometimes. Create! Let's see what we all can come up with!

* Please allow people to do their jobs and be thoughtful of the fact that people join departments and divisions to do their jobs. Try not to step on their functions. If you have something to help someone (advise that they may or may not follow) instead of saying something publically, it might be more useful to IM them and discuss it with them.

* Departments should be working together. There should be enough possibilities for everyone as long as they all work together and cooperatively. Do not be afraid to do OOC planning in IM.

* This is more or less freeform, but please don't have it as "Q did this". We need to get ourselves out of our own jams (not that this has ever been a problem with this crew).

Remember that the point of all this is to have fun! Good luck and have at!

Narrative

As we tried to make sense of what was happening to the Maxwell and its singularity core, a few things became clear: one, the two Mousicans had vanished; two, station commander Derlek was still with us, but rather overwhelmed by the unfolding events; and three, our Uhtu friend seemed to have gone into some sort of trance.

Engineering confirmed that the singularity core was gone and was nowhere on sensors - presumably, it had been hidden inside a portable wormhole by the aforementioned Mousicans. This soon proved to be precisely the case - not only were the Mousicans gone, they were not on the station either. They had boarded a cloaked ship and were preparing to tow the core, inside its wormhole, out of the system using their blink drive. Hearing reports that the Mousicans had advertised on local networks for a buyer, Mr. Auranum suggested that he himself pose as a buyer in a bid to get the core back. I agreed to this course of action.

As security took Commander Derlek to the brig to question him, I called Medical to have someone come examine the Uhtu. I wanted to move her to sickbay, but she managed - with effort - to say that she was mentally keeping the core from losing containment and that moving would cause her to lose control of it. Dr. von Ulricht, after scanning the Uhtu, confirmed that there was significant subcortex activity that could be indicative of some psionic field.

On the bridge, Te'ellis managed to pinpoint the location of the cloaked ship and relayed that information to Ullipallilli Station's security station - who had been reluctantly talked by Lieutenant Silvercloud into helping us. The security chief - one Momo Itlerat - took out his private yacht (!) in an attempt to intercept the Mousicans. Our thieves were in the middle of a trade with some Ferengi - the core in return for some highly dangerous biogenic weapon material. Regrettably, the Mousicans tricked the Ferengi - they gave them the core, but with a device locked on it which programmed it to lose containment in 20 minutes.

Chief Itlerat failed to intercept the Mousicans before they activated their blink drive and disappeared with the biogenic weapon material. However, he did intercept two highly frightened Ferengi who were now sure that the core they had been saddled with would kill them. As the station security chief dealt with the Ferengi, Commander Blackburn, Commander Forcella and Te'ellis worked to create a wormhole themselves in Engineering to get the core back. When this was done, they managed - with much effort and some cost to Commander Blackburn's health - to remove the Mousican device on the core.

I have allowed Commander Derlek to return to Ullipallilli station. However, I have made sure he is aware that I am filing a full report to Starfleet with a recommendation that a) a formal protest be made to the governments jointly overseeing Ullipallilli station, and b) Ullipallilli station cease to be an approved restocking and personnel transfer facility for Starfleet.

There is one thing, however, that I have not allowed. We were due to transfer the survivors from Vesuvius V to the USS Bamako for relocation to a planet in the Meskrati system. Given the unreliability of the command staff at Ullipallilli station, I am more than reluctant to leave the Vesuvians in their care. Therefore, the Maxwell will be undertaking that relocation itself.
