Well, this has been a crazy month…
With over 90 promotion and award requests both regular November ones and Admiral’s Banquet ones, things have been constant and insane in terms of time and energy. Ahead of the posting (which will happen tomorrow) and the Banquet I wanted to thank a few people. I figure it is fitting to do this beforehand, as I don’t want to take time and attention away from the people being honoured on Saturday.
First of all, I want to thank the Promotions and Awards Board. Jim and Lizzy were responsive and cheerful when it came to the ‘all hours of the day’ requests for reading, giving opinions, and voting. We were called a ‘well oiled machine’ more than once and I think everyone really rose to the challenge of being part of one of the busiest awards months ever. The feedback from both Jim and Lizzy was helpful and insightful and made a real difference in terms of being able to complete things on time.
Next, I want to thank VADMR Mistwallow. Any questions I had, he was able to answer and in an extremely timely fashion. Kermie also was an invaluable sounding board and his knowledge of the rules regarding P&A was helpful in so many ways. People often don’t see the work that Kermie is doing, but I have little doubt that he saved us hours of time and frustration.
Finally, I want to thank all the members who put in nominations for other people. Nominations came from everyone from the Joint Chiefs down to people in the Junior ranks and all were given the same time and attention. Of course, those who were thoughtful enough to put in their nominations early (our first came in the day after the call for nominations) were our special heroes as we were able to stage the nominations that way and do a few groups at at a time instead of trying to wade through 91 all at once. People who put in their nominations in the first three weeks took A LOT of stress off of everyone and were critical in ensuring that we had adequate time to complete our mission. Fully 40 of the nominations came in in the first three weeks, meaning that the P&A Board went through the remaining 51 nominations in a week to have everything processed in time. More statistics will be released after the banquet so members better understand how P&A works during the banquet period.
Thanks again, good luck to all, and I hope you enjoy the banquet!
