USS Milo sails again at 2 PM SLT on Saturday, August 19!

Come join this merry band of misfits and grease monkeys as we ply our trade in strange new worlds.

The particulars:

USS Milo is an Erti-class deep space tug. What that means is that she's basically the size of a couple of runabouts, wrapped around a truly huge warp drive and very sophisticated tractor system.

Milo is a Fleet-wide activity, open to all members of the Fleet, and is not a regular ship of the line. When you come to the Milo, you aren't playing as your normal character. Instead, you take on a persona unique to the Milo. There are only a few officers on board. Most of the crew is enlisted and NCO. If it will be your first time on the Milo, please talk to me beforehand about your Milo character so we can settle on things like Branch and rank. You are welcome to try out whatever Branch you like (you're an NPC, after all!). This is not a billet that would be appropriate for high-ranking characters.: for instance, the CO of the Milo is a Lieutenant. So give some thought to what sort of character you want to be! And please get in touch over Discord or in-world, or even email -- my address is ngothredson@gmail.com. If you're unsure as to what branch you want, be a regular crewman!

Remember, we're a tug. We're not exactly Starfleet's best and brightest.

What sorts of roles can you do?

Operations and Engineering! -- The most common Branches for crew are in these areas. We do a lot of fixing (even if it's just 'weld this to that') and a lot of ops. We tow, but we also salvage.

Sensors -- we need a sensor officer this time around! This is an actual Science Officer position.

Armorer -- we have cutting lasers as well as a phaser or two. The phasers might not have been fired in 20 years, but we still need someone to pretend to keep them in working order.

Mostly, this is a character-building exercise. Again, we're not Starfleet's best and brightest (though we are still Starfleet). A lot of what we do is in the character interactions themselves.

The whole fleet is welcome!

Reminder: USS Milo is meeting tomorrow at 2 PM SLT!

See you at Pinastri tomorrow! Just come to the Welcome Center, and take the transporter to USS Milo. If you don't already have a Milo character, please show up well before 2 PM! I'll be there starting around 1:30.

Today, USS Milo was sent to the M143-707 system to recover and tow an experimental Starfleet vessel that simply could not be left behind. It had crashed on the second planet in the system, M143-707-II. This planet is Class Y -- Demon class. The surface temperature is about 400C; the surface pressure is about 5.6 atmospheres, and the atmosphere is highly toxic. There is hydrochloric acid rain. In this extremely corrosive environments, the crew could only be assured that their suits would survive for about an hour before systems started failing. This meant that the crew had to procure a great many suits and spare parts -- anything that could not be replicated -- prior to flight. Upon arrival at the planet, an Away Team beamed down to survey the crash site and the ship. They brought along transporter pattern enhancers to allow beamout/beam-in closer to the crash, the original beam-in point having been some distance from the stricken ship.

The Away Team beamed out after an hour on the surface, having partially surveyed the ship and site. More work will be needed, and soon, to recover the ship from this highly destructive environment.
